Phoney was overheard saying to his chauffeur, "Take me to MGRover at Oxford at once my man."
"Sorry guv," came the reply, "MGRover is in Birmingham!"

Lovely story - but completely untrue.

Interesting story on page 23 headlined "Labour Man is Jailed for 3 Years Over Voting Scam". Apparently Moohammed Hussain used at least 233 postal votes to rig his re-election to Blackburn Council.
Yes, I had a look at today's Mail and saw this story too. But even the Labour-supporting BBC ran this story on its bulletins last night. Well, after news about the Pope's funeral and about Blair and Brown going to Birmingham to save the jobs of Labour MPs, sorry, Rover employees.

I now feel complete, having enjoyed todays Mail on Sunday, brilliant read. Just to give you all a taster of what you've missed:

Page 25 - Interesting article headlined "The Death of New Labour".
How Phoney Blairs aspirations about transforming left-wing politics, the welfare state and modernising public services have been trounced by Gordon Brown's obstruction who is still Old labour at heart.
Brown has insisted on the State retaining a monoply on the provision of healthcare through the NHS, blocking even the most minimal attempts to free hospitals from Whitehall control.

Page 27 - Great articel by Peter Hitchens entitled "Its not apathy that will stop me voting, its anger, disgust ..... and revulsion"

Page 37 - "My Terrifying 24 hours as a Gypsy Gangster" by journalist Ross Slater.
A truly horrific tale of crime and violence by gangs of gypsies.

Page 49 - Labour gives junkies free heroin on NHS
Well what can you say about a story like that except - not surprised!!!!!

Pages 51 -54 Phoney Blair is charged with liying and over 4 pages of lies, corruption and spin. In fact so much I had to reach for a sick bag!

Great Sunday paper, back to the Daily Mail tomorrow, can't wait!!!

    Is this true?

I thought that the policy was to prescribe methadone to junkies. I'm not sure that it would be a bad idea to return to the old policy of prescribing heroin to registered heroin addicts. I don't feel I know enough about the issue to judge what's the best policy - i.e., what's the most effective harm-reduction policy.

I am just intrigued to come across the claim that the policy has changed. I haven't come across this story elsewhere. My guess is that the Mail on Sunday has got it wrong. Is there anyone here well enough informed on the issue to clarify whether the policy really has changed or not?

We don't need you to tell us how much is in the Mail on Sunday. My mum brought it home this morning, (mainly to see their coverage of the royal wedding) the thing is just bustling with supplements! Why the hell does The Mail on Sunday need to have so many things with it?

No, no, let me explain this. The Mail on Sunday story claims that if Labour is re-elected, this will happen. It's not an official government policy - not yet, they say.

    Thanks for the clarification, stargalaxy.

Mind you, that still leaves the question of whether the Mail story is true or not. Does the Govt intend to change the rules?

Nobody knows. The story, as it appeared was very brief. The box in which the story appeared was about 10cms down and right, it's just a small story to fill a space where none of the ads would fit, I assume.

Just had my coffee and croissants and my first read of my favourite paper, The Daily Mail.
    Some interesting stories today:

Page 4 - Blair retreats on postal vote with new laws to curb Labour fraud

Pages 6-7 - Howard "I'll end Migrant Terror Risk"

Page 18 - Immigration & the Demonising of Decency - good article by Melanie Phillips

Page 25 - Four Die after MRSA hits Great Ormond Street Hospital

Page 29 - PC Brigade banishes the Holy Ghost from lessons

Page 36 - The Brussels Bonus - Scams can let an MEP fiddle £5,000 a month

    Marvellous stuff!

Right, stop doing that, other people don't fill threads with headlines and we can all use the internet. You think a stroy is interesting pick it and start a thread and find a link.

I'm sorry to disappoint you my friend but I genuinely happen to like the Dail Mail. It may not be your favoured read but thats your problem. But in any event theres no need to be disrespectful just because you don't like the newspaper I read.

Millions of people eat at McDonalds. But that's not exactly an endorsement of the quality of the "food" offered is it?

I think it is, I dont believe you can fool the public into buying something in masses for years and years if its a poor quality product.

Ask yourself the question....Why do so many people of different creeds and colour buy the Daily Mail?

Alternatively, you could just let people buy a copy of the Mail and find out what's in it for themselves? :p

Private Eye reported a classic Daily HateMail headline the other day.

It read something like: POLICE INVESTIGATES LABOUR MINISTER'S VICIOUS ATTACK ON WOMAN.

It was only 12 paragraphs later, in minuscule font and buried on the inside pages that you learned the "vicious attack" in question consisted in the Labour minister placing a note of complaint on the woman's car windscreen regarding some dispute.

That is the kind of journalism the HateMail excels at.

Yep, or the way in which Tony Blair recently said single mothers are causing social problems. Well, no he didn't actually, but that's how the Mail reported it. What he actually said was that women who have children early in life could be forced to drop out of the education system, causing problems for themselves in later life. But that's too clear-cut for the Mail!

One of the most despicable headlines of recent times was one on the lines of "Abortions Give You Breast Cancer". It was a complete and unfounded lie and the Press Complaints Commission gave the HateMail an unprecedented bollocking. Sadly not big enough for anyone's liking.

I think I remember seeing that one. When I first saw the headline, I went "what the fuck?!". Only after reading it did I notice, "ah wait, this is all bollocks as usual". If the Mail is to be believed, Tony Blair is the devil, Michael Howard is this nation's saviour, , single mothers are evil, immigrants are all disease-carrying scumbags... what will they come up with next?

Problem is though, sensationalist bullshit sells.

I think the worst I've ever seen was a front page in the Sun.

Scientists had possibly linked cot death with a virus/bacteria and the reporters had asked how this might be spread, when asked if it could be given from the mother to the infant he said 'erm yes, its a possibility but highly unlikely'

The headline? 'Cot Death in Mothers Kiss'

It seems to me self-evident that the British people like reading The Daily Mail as it relates to issues that concern them so I see no reason for this constant denigration of those of us who buy and read the paper.

It seems to me that there is an element of intellectual snobbery by those who attack us Daily Mail readers, it usually comes from the tree-hugging, social-worker, Green activist Grauniad types, who've never been weaned from their infantile left-wing socialist leanings!

There's no "seems" about it. Anyone with any level of intellect snubs the Daily "Hate" Mail.

:eek2: Well, I definitely don't fit into that category. At no point has anyone ever called me a socialist. My views are pretty right-wing in truth. And what have you got against social workers? They do a pretty important job in this country!

Another vintage comment from Rich Kid :)

Can I just point out that 58 million people don't read the Daily Mosley?

So its readership can hardly be described as "the British people" can it?

The daily mail is crap RK.
    British people

    No such thing, RK.

I can't even read most newspapers and the mail has to be worse than the sun or star. At least they don't pretend to be anything more than comics for adults. And most importantly they have tits in. Naked women for teh win!

Let's face it if you wrote all the facts that are in daily newspapers on a sheet of A4 there would be plenty of room for a very spaious shopping list as well.
