Show me where I was supposedly whinging about how much he earns?
You're a fucking dick, seriously.
"My dad earns shit loads but can't afford to buy a house"...except he can, so stop moaning about how hard done by you are. You're not, you're very privileged. If you don't want people commenting on your family stuff, don't post about it. Sorted.
Fucking hell. I made one fucking comment which I didn't expect anyone to pick up on and it turns into this.
Besides, that is NOT whinging about how much fucking money he has.
And obviously it's NOT simple as that, since he can't. Like I said, I don't know all the details but it involves what will happen when they actually move here and he's no longer earning £100k+, and they'll be living off my stepmum's earnings. If he was going to continue earning that much then yeh, he could, but he's retiring in 5 or so years (although he should be retiring next year, really), and so he won't be.
Is that any clearer for you, or are you still going to keep trying to tell me that they'll still be able to afford it?
You are joking right?
You'd let kids starve?
Interesting.
How is it "socially responsible" to want to see a family house in something smaller than they need?
Yeah, but no-one wants to cover the issue of low wages...
And how the hell do you know they're not appreciative of it?
To be fair he also knows that earning £100k is much higher than national averages for people who can afford housing. Hell, on that sort of salary it's very difficult to understand how it isn't possible to afford anything. However, this thread isn't about Franki - it's about another family.
Precisely. I could never afford the house which I live in. It's worth approximately £300k, but then I live in Kent and fuck me the prices are high around here.
I am lucky enough to live in rented "low-cost" accomodation. Something which previous Tory Govts saw fit to reduce. It's partly why we end up with situations like this.
And that, I suspect, is the real issue with some of the comments here. It's not about the need to provide appropriate housing for a family of 14 which ensures that they are able to function as a family giving the children the best chance of making something of themselves in this world.
No, most of the comments seem to be envious. And that is more a reflection on the posters than it is on the fact that this family have been house in such accomodation.
Like I said, would people prefer that they were homeless?
So what do you expect, individual letters of thanks to every taxpayer? Perhaps they should get on etheir knees and pray for you understanding?
In my eyes the best way of thanking us would be to raise children who understand that value of the leg-up which they have been afford and who don't waste what opportunity they have.
The whole article is designed to get a raise out of people and you SG appear to have fallen for it hook, line and sinker.
Nope. I take pride in the fact that I live in a country which supports people in need, rather than throwing them on the streets to fend for themselves.
Many times, on this board, the question has been raised "why should these people get ....", or "why should we help these people..." My reply is always the same.
Because we can.
We are in such a fortunate position where we have the capability to help out those who are less fortunate, whether through immigration, the NHS, the welfare state, overseas development, charitable donations etc etc and I think it would be remiss of us to say "fuck you, your problem". What kind of society is that?
how can you tell from an article like that whether the family are appreciative or not ?
anyone on housing benefit is "being given a house for free" and "should starve"
nice!
It's wrong, imo.
How did you work that out?
why not move the family to somewhere where they can get a house the same size for less then half the price? then could could house two familys for half a million, instead of one
Because they probably wanted to keep them in the same area instead of having to move 8 of the children to a new school, away from other relations and friends and most importantly where the family is happy.
Hell, why not deport them to a cheap country and pay them to look after the family?
