What are the barriers that are stopping you making an appointment with your Dr? Are you registered, do you know how to make an app, do you know how to get there and have you worked out what you want to say?

Because circles have no beginning or end, they are always the same. Like this thread.

How brilliant that you've finally got an appointment. Do tell us how it goes.

He said no, but I don't believe him.

He said no since he says he doesn't see it.

If you're not happy with his reponse, you are entitled to ask for another opinion and see another doctor.

Every single one of us has things that they don't understand, and that nobody can explain to them, however hard they try. For instance, while working on a computer programming course, I couldn't grasp one particular concept that "everyone else" seemed to find a doddle. No matter how they tried, neither my tutor nor my fellow students where ever able to help me understand the problem. I just had a complete mental blank where that concept was concerned.

This example isn't a very good parallel to your situation, but the point I am making is that no matter how smart a person is, there will always be certain things that, to them, will be completely unfathomable. In your case, you say that you don't get the complexity of social interaction. Proper diagnosis and therapy might help you a little, but the likelihood is that there will always be certain things that you will never fully understand - just as I could never make sense of that particular string of binary code.

Everybody understands the truths of life and I do not.

to me you seem quite able to understand the situation on here, with the way you are responding. it can take years to learn 'truths' on life. it's about taking things as they come and accepting that you cannot understand everything.

This is not true. Everybody knows the truths of life, as stated in this thread.

Theres a lot of misunderstanding about autism and a lot of people think autism is purely Kanners autism, when it can be a huge spectrum with people having it yet being not particularly badly affected (relatively).
Maybe you arent autistic. I mean theres a lot more to autism than not understanding the truths of life (whatever they are)
You certainly seem a bit out of the ordinary to me, the way you write stuff etc, but im definitely not qualified to diagnose.
I would suggest you go back to your GP and ask for a referral to a specialist.
Either that or pay to see someone privately for an assessment and possible diagnosis. A lot of people have to take that route in adulthood if they want a diagnosis

Isn't it only specialists who can diagnose?

On Sunday, a friend (who has autism) did suggest that I am possibly autistic too - I am so tempted to just ignore what he said. Not because I don't believe him; but because I personally don't see what good a label will do to me.

yeah A GP wouldnt diagnose anyway, although its helpful to have them on your side to be able to refer you to the right people

The way youre expressing yourself. The way you dont take on what people say and repeat the same stuff over and over again. The way your conversation doesnt flow. It just makes me think that maybe youre right, maybe there is something not quite neurotypical there.

Thats not to say its a bad thing. Just that i think maybe if youre finding it is affecting your life, then youre right to push for extra help.

It depends on what you mean by the "truths of life". Going back to earlier posts, you seem to be worried that you don't know things that are "common knowledge" to everyone else. Well, ok. But common knowledge doesn't just happen at birth.

For instance, an anthropologist notices a particular aspect of human behaviour and decides to do a study to prove his theory. He publishes his findings. His fellow academics discuss these findings. Perhaps they talk about the study over dinner with friends. The dinner party guests talk about the study and its findings with their own friends. Eventually, a journalist friend of a friend writes an article about the study. More and more people come to know about the study. Over time, the findings of the original study pass into the wider public domain and a television presenter mentions them on a show - only, by that time, they will have no idea where the "facts" that they are quoting (or, quite possibly, misquoting) have come from. They simply say "it's common knowledge that ...." and half their audience would not have any idea whether or not it was, in fact, "common knowledge" at all.

Quite a lot of us are guilty of simply accepting things we are told are "common knowledge" without questioning where the knowledge came from. It could be said, therefore, that a lot of us don't understand the truths of life any more than you do. We just accept them as being true.

Well, here are some truths for you to ponder. Friends come and go. You won't always get what you want. Many people will love you, but many will not. Nobody can transform your life like you can. You are going to fail at some some stage. Circumstances will sometimes ruin your plans. There may be no tomorrow. Someone else will always have more than you.

The biggest challenge is that you need to know how to react to these truths because the experience of failure is the key to personal growth. Treat others the way you want to be treated. Live life for the moment. Accept what is, even if things don't go your way. Happiness is here, right now if you stop resisting and start accepting.

    Do you understand this?

Then you do understand truths of life. There are more but you find these for yourself as you experience life but I think these are good ones to understand and get on with. :)
