No, not really. My mates range from teachers to accountants, designers to city recruitment consultants.
Whatever.
Its fairly common for coppers to only socialise with other coppers. Its not something I just made up y'know.
Its more common for coppers from what I hear (from people who have been coppers).
Is a good job that would be really interesting. Would be rewarding to help out people.
Well ye .. thats pretty obvious ..
I know that I would rather be a police officer than a debt collector, or be working in a call centre all my life, which realistically is what is ahead of me.
If you want to help people, become a nurse or work with the homeless or something.
Debt collectors are scum. There are other choices y'know.
I am a debt collector. And I get paid very fucking well for it, thanks.
There aren't many other choices that would give me a bloody good pension at 55... if I carried on as I am now, I'll be working until I die. Fact.
Anyway, thanks for your opinion and all but I'm happy applying for the police, and I'm sure I'll be happy working as a police officer. Obviously I won't be losing any sleep over the fact that you don't like it.
But most coppers I meet on the street tend to be rude, over assertive with their authority etc. "With power comes responsibility" - by overusing that power when it is not necessary I have lost a lot of respect for the police, they don't say 'please' or anything, everything is always an order.
I met another copper actually (biker) who was pretty nice (was also quite relaxed about me riding his 500cc motorbike without a licence ). He said traffic cops were cunts tho. *shrugs*
Personally I think the job you do is morally reprehensible.
Sounds like a good plan to me Babyshambler, all the best with your application.
Do I care about what you think? No... especially when I get a big fat wage coming in every month.
Thank you
we've so got to have a p+d meet someday....
btw babyshambler if you think you'll be retiring from the force at 55 you're having a laugh, fact is the way the demographics are going there'll be one pensioner to every 4 working men/women soon, and you're assuming state pensions are still going to be around when you retire....the public sector pension deficit is already at £1 trillion and rising, so i wouldn't bet on it.
It's not a state pension that I will be relying on...it will be a pension from the Police that I intend to contribute to. And if I do join, my contract will state I can retire at 55 or after 30 years service. Check it out, if you want to.
Fair enough, Jim. I just think that Blagsta is unnecessarily rude and his comments uncalled for.
That doesn't bother you? Gettin paid lots of money to fuck people up?
Sorry, what? Saying that I find certain jobs morally wrong? Come again?
Some of you have a lot to learn about life.
Sorry, rude in what way? You do a job which often ends up making people homeless. I think thats morally wrong.
I've come across a lot of police, some nice, some not so nice, the same as every other walk of life.
I work as a journalist and no doubt some people think journalists are all 'scum' because of a bad experience or some incidents they have heard of, but I know that I do my job the best I can and it's not up to me what others do. It's just stereotyping.
