Text talk - TheSite.org's stance

This argument is definitely one that we've considered, but the counter argument(s) yes there's a few, hold more weight (as you've already identified) when considering TheSite.org in a broad context.
Anyhow, we'll look forward to sharing some more of our wider considerations when more people have had the chance to air their views on this topic.
I used to use txttlk when using a mobile, but stopped once phones were able to automatically stitch together multiple messages.
If you're still using a phone without a keyboard, then yes it does take longer to type, but if you want people to read what you've written surely you should make the effort, not expect them to.
 I don't use text talk full stop. When writing text messages, I may type "dont"; but never use text speak.
but I do think it isnt necessarily down to laziness, just what some people are used to.

Feel free to type text talk if you want - it's a free country. However, you must consider that people will be less likely to reply if you post in text talk because of the simple fact that it takes longer to read. It would be the same if you posted in Chinese, binary or semaphore.
The easier it is to read, the more people will read it, increasing the likelihood of replies, ergo increasing the likelihood of good advice to help you deal with whatever you're going through. Simples.
Erm... yeah, you've said right here you are doing it to annoy us...

Actually, those aren't allowed.
Yeah, isn't there a rule saying you must speak in English? I don't think my English teacher would count Text speak as English...

haha yeah mine niether, i may do it and tell you what she says :P
like fuck your not doing it to annoy people what you put is blatently clear that you were doing it to annoy people. twat
i cbb now
Helen - I'm sure there are many arguements for allowing the use of text talk, the main one of course being that you want thesite to help as many people as it can, and you don't want to disclude (exclude? preclude?) people who feel that they can only talk in text talk. That's a really good point when it comes to thesite, and I know that you don't make decisions about thesite without a lot of consideration and discussion.
It doesn't make me change my opinion about people who use text talk though, and I think it's a shame that it's being allowed, because it is so crap. By condoning it here it is hardly encouraging people to use standard English (or even just NORMAL(!) English) in other aspects of life, where text talk is not appropriate and you will need to use standard English. Just best to get into the habit of using standard English early on etc.
but again not my forum, not my rules
exactly!

However in all seriousness, If thesite wants to allow it fair enough, however I see no point in text talk as surely it isn't "people are use to it" as if they're use to it they'd be using it in school, on essays etc and if they are using it there, they'd be failing
I admit I am not the best at writing, spelling especially but I try to make it clear, If there was a character limit I could understand but as I believe the character limit on a post is something like 50thousand I do not think text talk is needed.
Text talk just breeds laziness and illiteracy.
as I said these are just my views, I feel there is no need for it. it is not as if anyone can claim text talk is easier, as there is no possible way it is. maybe slightly quicker but then your talking a matter of seconds.
If it means that people whose primary language is text get help when they really need it, then that's a good thing, but to be honest I won't be one of the people who helps them, because I'd rather spend the time I have replying to posts that you don't need to be some sort of military level codebreaker to figure out.
can you imagine using it in an exam? How about filling in a bank, passport or job application? Or writing your CV using text talk?
Get used to using Standard English, it will make your life SO much easier if you have a good grasp of it.

It's just another form of slang.
This is what I mean, if writing in ink you will not put 3 instead of e, it is the same or 4 instead of a etc etc. it isn't quicker and if it is "encouraged" when they reach adulthood and use it they'll be shunned and no one would employ them. would you employ someone who uses texttalk? I think not. I mean would thesite have an article written in text talk?

Fuck a fly no you don't
