Damn that's a shame, especially given the size of it and how imposing it was on the street. Had my first job interview there...

i know i think its a bit sad whenever i walk past it. i remember when i was little the only place i would want to go when my mum took me and my sister in town was to woolworths for some pick and mix

Firenze - good point about the pick-and-mix. Apart from Woolies, I have only ever seen a pick-and-mix at a cinema. Any idea what other shops (if any) do pick-and-mix?

My grandma said she heard the Body Shop was moving in the other half but I think she might've heard wrong as it's been months since she heard that and there's no sign of anything happening. I can't see the Body Shop doing well here anyway.

H&M!!!! Tis is good! And, our JJB closed down and became sportsdirect.com. I used to love JJB's, it was a great shop. Ooo and we have an international where select used to be.

Thanks :-) Stafford has both a Tesco and a Wilkinsons, although I didn't realise that Wilkinsons is a chain.

The Brighton one is an H&M, my local ones are either a factory shop outlet or a chinese food shop (which will be shut again in six months), a couple are still empty.

I asked a couple of my London friends what theirs had become. One who lives in Stratford (that's the one in London, not Avon), had become an Iceland. The other guy who lives in Woodford Green said that theirs had become a 99p store. With so many people saying that theirs had become Icelands, it strikes me that Iceland had a deal with Woolies when they went under.

Iceland was one of the firms that decided to buy a bulk of stores off them. Well the leases I guess.

My (former) local Woolies has become a Factory Store since around April. It's a fairly similar concept to Woolworths, only the execution is even worse.

The one in Camden is a sports shop and the one in Archway is a Sainsbury's.

What's the point of a 99p store..? What happened to pound shops..?

I agree - just stick with the £1 shops. The drawback of 99p shops is that their tills will need tonnes of 1p coins to give out as change :-)
