Surely you did this when voting for your representatives in parliament?

So, if Britain was under attack, say London fell victim to a successful biological attack, 3 million of your fellow countrymen are dead and the number is increasing. Would you fight? Remember that this is a possibility, not something in the realms of fantasy.
Or would you decide that your life is far more important and run away and hide in the mountains?
The government has eyes and ears everywhere, big brother is watching you.
yes- I would in this instance.
FIGHT WHO?
Good point - I don't know...
BTW, one of my favourite poems there
Of course its all well and good of us to talk about this on a forum but whos to say we wouldnt feel differently if the situation actually arose. I could very well turn out to be a coward when it comes down to it and you guys could well be so maddened by the attacks on us that you turn into bloodcrazed looneys...Who can tell, thats the joy of hypotheticals

Education and free media? That is a long-term solution that will be introduced after any 'war', this is only effective once the threat to our way of life is eliminated. For now I'll take the nuclear warheads, tanks and flame-throwers, thank-you all the same.
The "threat to our way of life" is a certain set of insidious thought processes known collectively as faith. And, for the nth time, faith is beaten by rigourous education in the ways of logical (scientific) reasoning.
The education I describe as being necessary to the successful conclusion of this conflict must be corollary to it, not appended to it. I say again: education is a weapon, and it is our biggest one.
Nobody would have to hunt you down because 1) you wouldn't have the guts to defy conscription and 2) if you did you would have to run away to another country which is fine with me. 3) if you stayed someone would turn you inwhich would be even better.
Well some reservists have been called up, one step closer to conscription, just think stuey as I'm on the reserve I get called up before you get conscripted, so you could have the situation where I end up your platoon Sgt......sweetheart.
platoonchild
Speaking hypertheticaly (sp!) of course. (and as you said any of our reactions could change) Would I fight? That completly depends on the situation. At this moment in time no I wouldn't.
...Would be my words to those who refuse under any and all circumstances to employ violence in the pursuit of anything.
Military law would dictate that I would have to shoot you on the spot, or you would be taken for court martial, stood in front of a wall, with a blindfold and erm, shot. sweetheart.
Wanna know why I would gladly hunt down deserters? Because they obviously don't care if I live or die, so I dont care if they do.
Change the F with the w and you have got me in one
And it wouldn't make me a deserter!!!
It would make me a consciencious objector who has decided not to fight.
If we were expected to fight in this "war" I would say NO.
I don't want to be involved, because I don't think it is fair or legal and I don't want to kill another person.
I don't want to be put in a situation where I am expected to shoot someone because they might shoot me first.
I'd rather stay out of it and wait until a cause I really believe in comes up thanks.
And I don't think this time that the cause is freedom!
Whowhere,
"Military law would dictate that I would have to shoot you on the spot, or you would be taken for court martial, stood in front of a wall, with a blindfold and erm, shot"
not any more.
Incorrect, [T]: military officers in the field still have powers of summary justice (including the penalty of death). I know. My father had those very powers when on deployment with his Squadron.

You're damn right we need a rational code of morality and ethics. But not much progress can be made in that direction while we've still got a majority ranting about gods, devils, souls, and absolute morality, and using an ancient book written by ignorant nomads as a guide.
Conscription will only happen if Britain can be attacked by conventional forces, that is when I will have no patience with deserters.
Or what - put them in prison - in which case they have achieved their aim - they are out of the war and don't have to kill anyone.
You have a right to feel as you do - if you want to stoop that far down and kill another person, to do just as the hijackers did - kill another person - then I guess you will go ahead.
I don't want to be like that.
(Although I was refering to Conciensoiusly objecting rather than deserting)
