Nothing, but it becomes a problem when thats all women are expected to be. Men are not judged on looks and objectified, yet women are in our society. That ain't healthy.

    Codswallop.

The whole thing about this is the blatent double standards women usually have. OOhh I prefer tall men etc etc and at the same time expecting you to "look for the beauty within" as though you don't really like what you like.

i.e. Ignore all my flaws while I screen you for yours.

i dont treat women like that....

its mainly other women who expect it really, much liek the its okay for a guy to sleep around loads with anyone thing but it isnt for a woman, when i see the 2 exactly the same ie rather daft - however only woman call eachother slags, unless that girl has a bf, so he has every right to call her it if she's slept around

Maybe you don't, but look at our society. Look at advertising, magazines like FHM, the increasing acceptability of porn, the way women TV presenters are expected to be of a certain attractiveness level, the way women constantly get judged for their looks and nothing else. Men call women slags too y'know and beat and kill women.

"unless that girl has a bf, so he has every right to call her it if she's slept around" Is it OK to call your g/f a slag? Thats fucked up.

So society is TV, magazines and porn?

Of course, men are immune to advertising, women don't have their own mags and male tv presenters are all boot ugly.

Everyone is (initially). Get a grip man. It's stupid to moan that it's the case because it's built in. Men like attractive women, women like attractive men. End of, get over it.

The media conditions society. I remember reading a report in psychology (Hoek I believe) where this man went to an island in the carrabean where it's still seen as beautiful to be of bigger build. Isn't that proof that the media conditions us in to believing that one thing is beautiful and another thing isn't?

    No.

Walk down any street and look at the couples, living breathing proof that people of all shapes and sizes can and do find other people of all shapes and sizes attractive.

The media can project stereotypes all it wants. What you get then is everyone plodding on much as they have ever done, but with a nagging doubt about what they are doing, comparing themselves to the media images etc.

In no way do the media change how people behave, but they do change how people feel about the way they behave and what they naturally find attractive. The problem lies when you confuse the media with the group of people arbitarily lumped together as "society".

Firstly men are judged on their looks thats bollox to sugest its only women who are.

On a similar note, regarding women in power and their general acceptance.
It seems to me they try and have it both ways, on the one hand they say
That if Women had been in charge there would have been no (less I assume) wars, poverty and inequality. Then they will also say that the reason that women never painted the Mona lisa, or discovered gravity etc is that they never had the chance.
A bit of contradiction there if you ask me, we never did the bad things because we wouldn’t because were more caring than men, we never did the good things because men held us back.

Personally I don’t think thered be any difference if women run things in tearms of inequality and violence, its about power wealth and keeping yours, funely enough every female leader weve had has taken us in to wars, and oversaw horendus poverty or in the case of the most recient ruler, a widening gap.

I thought the BBC was run by Gays??? he has a problem with women and i think he is frustrated with his career prospects. Women have it harder in nearly all aspects of life.

    Indeed klintock.

It's a piece of piss being expected to have a career, and still come home and look after the house. After earning 2/3 of what your partner does for the exact same job.

The pay is an issue, but if a woman comes home from work then allows her partner to do nothing its her fault.

Yes women get paid on average less than men. Yes they have everything else almost all their own way.

    Why?

    Choice.

about the last bit, did you forget to read 'if my gf slept around with lots of guys whilst i was seeing her, im happy to call her a slag' - but she hasnt and shes great :)

and look at womens magazines, mens magazines tend to have not so good looking women with large breasts or blonde fuck-a-celeb-and-be-famous-for-getting-her-tits-out women

and all presenters are expected to either be experienced looking a la old news reporters or attractive, not just women... all

and people kill eachother, not just men or women but members of both.....

95% of statistics can prove anything

honestly though there probably is mroe male murderers, but theres probably more male murderers convinced into it by a woman that we know of

point being is that ANYONE can be a murderer - since you have some understanding of legal processes in this country, what's the main reasons for murder in this coutnry anyway?

1stly althrough women do on average earn 2/3 less than men, its not "for the same job" a man and a women teacher still earn the same.
Its either because womens jobs are valued differently, ie technical and carer, its also because a higher percentage of women value their children more than their carears, so arnt looking for such rapid advancment.
More women prefer part time jobs as well, there is sexism in this but its not the whole or evern the main reason for the discrepency.

And if I had a girlfriend and she cheeted and I liked her and hadnt cheeted on her Id call her a lot more than a slag, your saying a man dosnt have the right to say this if his partners cheted.
I bet youd say a women has the right to call her man a bastard if he's cheeted, though wouldnt you.

Firstly men are judged on their looks thats bollox to sugest its only women who are.

Try reading what I wrote a bit more carefully - "but it becomes a problem when thats all women are expected to be.". Women are often judged solely on looks, women are objectified as sexual objects in our society in a way that men aren't. Look at magazines like Nuts, FHM, Zoo etc. Women are presented as passive objects to be wanked over, not valued for their intelligence, wit, talent but for their looks and looks alone (looks that are usually pretty artificial). That ain't right. Now I know that its becoming more normalised that men are presented like this in the media too, but two wrongs don't make a right. Women have been commodified in our society for a while now and its starting to happen to men too - human relationships are being presented as commodity exchanges, as consumer products to be used and thrown away. This is fucked up.

about the last bit, did you forget to read 'if my gf slept around with lots of guys whilst i was seeing her, im happy to call her a slag' - but she hasnt and shes great :)

So instead of trying to sort out where your relationship might have gone wrong, you'd just call her a slag? Right you are then.
and look at womens magazines, mens magazines tend to have not so good looking women with large breasts or blonde fuck-a-celeb-and-be-famous-for-getting-her-tits-out women

And that doesn't objectify women...how exactly?
and all presenters are expected to either be experienced looking a la old news reporters or attractive, not just women... all

Look at this a bit deeper. The men are usually expected to have some kind of authority or gravitas, based on knowledge and experience. Looks don't really come into it. Women are expected to be attractive and not a lot else.
and people kill eachother, not just men or women but members of both.....

I think it would be better to talk things through. But I'll ask you this - Do bastard and slag have the same connotations?

Blagsta I agree with you that there is an importance put on appearances that is unhealthy.

Are you sure however that this has gotten worse in recent times? Isn't this just a fact of human society (not one we should except thought) rather than something unique to modern culture?

Its not just "an importance put on appearances", its the wholesale objectification and commodification of human beings. Especially treating women as passive objects to be wanked over, not valued for anything but looks.

Yes. Look at the prevalance of FHM, Nuts, Zoo etc.

But haven't men always done that, everywhere and everytime?
    Blagsta wrote:

But surely that just reflects the development of the media, quite probably it is a current marketing fashion that will die away in time, just a fad.

Porn in general has been a round as long as modern media has.

More to blame than anyhting is the internet really......

    .

ever thought some of these people might like the attention it gets them? self-degradation is part of human nature in a strange way :s most men dont care either way if nuts existed or not.

objectification happens to both sexes these days in the media, it's part of the media and always will be i presume, outside of the media, i think its even more pointless however some people value good looks so it will always exist.

i'd like it if a good character was more recognised by everyone things would be better sadly only cocky cunts tend to be it seems cause they make themselves noticed
