I was reading this thread: http://vbulletin.thesite.org.uk/showthread.php?s=&threadid=60108
And it made me feel sick.
I think it's unbelieveable that a girl of thirteen (recently in the papers) was allowed to have an abortion with out anyone telling her parents. Her mother found out when she read it in her diary.
What do you think about abortions?

I think having a baby at 13 is pretty silly, so yes i agree with termination as long as its for the right reasons.
What about if you were in a stable relationship and your partner decided to have a termination, do you not think you should play some part in the decision making ?
My own thoughts to abortion? I'm pro-choice. Sadly, many people think that being pro-choice automatically means you'd have an abortion or you'd *always* recommend someone else have an abortion in the face of an unplanned pregnancy. I support a woman's right to choose between having an abortion or NOT having an abortion.
I'm going to teach sex ed in a few weeks at a girls school, so I kind of feel I'm 'doing my bit' so to speak in prevention.
even 15 she is still far too you to take full responsibility for a newborn baby.
Of course my feelings should be taken into consideration. But at the end of the day, its the woman who gives birth, its ultimately her decision. What would I do otherwise? Force her to give birth? I don't think so.
nah I was just curious, because if you were a couple then I personally think its really a decision made by the pair of you.
Hey we finally agree on something
Has she got parents who are prepared to pack in work to look after this baby ?
Has she got parents who can afford to keep a newborn baby ?
she is a child herself and let me assure you even if you have a baby in your 30's its bloody hard work so all I can say is she must have lots of help and support.
How do you know she is happy ? because she smiles at school ?
True story this is :
Friend of mine fell pregnant with pill, she then had a coil fitted as she wanted no more children, she fell pregnant again she already had 2 children by this time the youngest being 5 months so she had a termination. Sometime later she was sterilised by having clips on her tubes.........she then fell pregnant, even after a sterilisation.
yeah straight up, she now has had her tubes totally cut so she cant have any more. The first sterilisation was clips on her tubes and apparently one came off and she fell pregnant.
Talk about being unlucky.
I don't think anyone does. But women should have the option there if necessary.
agreed
oh damn I told myself not to wander into the abortion thread because it is just one of those things that can never be resolved by a simple 'im right your wrong' argument............
unfortunately ah well different folks different strokes...
Please give more substance to your arguements.
I am pro abortion, for a few reasons. Firstly for the care of the mother, a woman has to put herself first and if a child will ruin her health then she may not be a fit mother to look after it. Primary socialisation is paramount to a growing child and without real attachments forming then the child may grow up with a higher likelihood of mental health problems and dysfunctional behaviour (see any work by Bowlby).
Secondly do you know what happens when a junkie gives birth? she gives birth to another junkie. Do you like the idea of a junkie baby? Who could in all likelihood die of neglect anyhow?
Thirdly population and economics. Say abortion was outlawed then there would be more benefits payed out to single parent teenagers or whatever and less going in to the NHS.
There's a difference between life and existance in my opinion. And if a child isn't going to have a good quality of life then it's cruel to bring it in to the world.
Why should her parents have been told?
Cos she is a minor ?
Personally i feel that the parents should have been told, she would be having an operation so its the parent/guardian who consents ?
God fobid anything happened whilst she was under anastetic but what if something did happen ?
And what happens if, say, the girl's father is completely against abortions, and refuses? What then?
"Because we cant afford to keep you we're giving you away for scientific experiments."
I am definately pro-choice.
Where is that from? Was it Monty Python or something, I've heard it around a couple of times.
They still have no right to this information. Confidentiality is a vital component of the medical profession.
If the doctor considers that you understand the risks associated wit hthe procedure then you can consent to have it carried out regardless of you age.
As for something happeneing whilst she was under anaesthetic, surely this could equally happen if her parents knew about the operation?
It's not too hard to "be careful" nowadays.
