I never said they weren't, however, I'm not going to take their sources as gospel, especially if they're using that number on purpose to do the usual Holocaust comparisons.

You seemed to suggest that they used a figure plucked from the air to make the pro-choicers look like Nazis, or whatever.

Regardless of the crude numbers, abortions are increasing and whether you view that as taking a life or just a simple lifestyle decision, you have got to be concerned about the number of potentially preventable medical procedures being carried out each year.

I think it's quite difficult to be pro-choice but also to suggest that there are too many abortions being carried out each year, but that is the position I expect most abortionists would take.

No, I said most pro-life groups because there were not any other sources to hand, pro-choice or otherwise. The UK Life League also has an endearing little section on 'Nazis and abortion.' And it was Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O'Connor who specifically stated,
That way lies eugenics, and we know from German history where that leads.

Yep. Which is why I'm going back to teach sex ed in schools this year. SPUC etc on the other hand, are concerned about 'abortofacient' contraception, and say that the use of contraception may result in an 'anti-child' mentality etc.
I think it's quite difficult to be pro-choice but also to suggest that there are too many abortions being carried out each year

I've spoken to most of our 'abortionists'/surgeons, and I'm well aware that they are concerned too, and have their own personal thoughts regarding the legal limit. Personally, I agree with them. Politically, that's a different story, and not for this debate.

Extremists aside, the implication in your post was that the figure was exaggerated.

As for George Galloway, he's an extremist of the highest order and probably holds most of his views for publicity reasons as far as I can tell. Not someone I'd vote for. The only occasion on which I sided with him was when Jeremy Paxman asked him repeatedly if he was proud to have defeated a black Labour candidate, which I felt was totally irrelevant.

That's your own conclusion. It wasn't my implication, I'm quite aware of the rough yearly abortion figures. As I have already said, there were no other sources other than pro-life groups. I shall remember to be more specific next time this arises.

    Is this place that predictable?

The DoH and ONS have recent numbers - something like 180,000 last year but of course it has increased since the early days. Not that there are any pre-1967 numbers to compare though.

Not really, but the abortion debate cycle can be pretty frequent depending on the mood of posters. I'd care, but I'm too busy asking myself why forearm muscles have to have so many Latin names :crying:

I don't know, I had forgotten it was on.

A bit stuck, trying to work out a good way of getting the group of extensors [posterior compartment] under my belt without muddling them up. The anterior compartment isn't *too* bad.

Yikes. I'm glad those days are behind me. What book do you use: Moores, Snell, Tortora? And why are you doing work on a Saturday night??

Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
At the moment, Moore and the Anatomy Atlast by Gosling et al. But mainly we have to use Dean and Peggington because it's specific to UCL, and all the examination questions on the MEQ use their diagrams. Fun fun fun.

Working on a Saturday night as I have a shitload of pharmacology to do and will never get it done by Monday when I have a whole day in the dissection room. Tell me clinicals are fun and easy like chasing ducks and playing in the snow.

You'll love clinical medicine. You're just jumping through the hoops to get there. You won't remember those muscles in a couple of years time. I remember that Dr Evil uses Extensor digiti minimi a lot...other than that it's all gone. Make sure you know the nerves though and the dermatomes.

George Galloway would be all at sea in an OSCE.

Probably the same way GWB, Rumsfeld, Thatcher, Blair et al do.

Too late Mat was gone already ;)

You guys will hate me for this but he came accross as quite a sound bloke. We were kicked out the room at 2 but he then proceeded to do a Q & A session outside on the grass for an hour. It was very interesting.

 Let's not forget who PUT Saddam in power in the first place.

Of course he seems like a nice bloke. According to his Guards, Saddam seems liek a nice bloke in person.

It's a Politicians job to do that.

    I don't.

The only thing more tiring than private school Tories is poor little rich kids who try to pretend they're down wid da hood and da homies by pretending to be socialists for a few years.

It's odd how they all grow out of it when they realise what 50% tax really means.

Ah, well in the first place I have no reason to hate you and certainly not for your sincere evaluation of a talk I did not attend.

Secondly, I'm not surprised at your reaction since from what I HAVE seen of Galloway, both in his dressing down of a hypocritical Senate Subcommittee and in subsequent BBC appearances, I considered his comments to be refreshingly critical of the current direction of UK/US/Globalist policies.

"Home Truths" from one who espouses allegiance to an ideology rooted in the belief that it is necessary and proper to lie to the masses to further its political agenda.

Nothing remotely conservative about neo-Conservatism. Best you go examine the teachings of Strauss a bit more carefully before claiming any ethical or moral superiority in your rather self congratulatory blogs.

As the French would say, a "big lie"!
