There is a line to be drawn, but in reality it should be a shade of greys. People mature at different rates - there would be 18 year olds too immature to have sex who shouldn't be allowed and also 15 year olds who are mature enough. Biologically, there is no disctinction between one day before your 16th and your 16th, yet the law thinks you think completely differently under both.
Think about speed limits, doing 71 on an empty stretch of motorway isn't really that bad, is it? But doing 40 on a country lane when it's raining and there's lots of traffic is asking for trouble.
Law is supposed to be there as a tool to support what's naturally right or wrong so to speak. But the thing is sometimes there's no clear line between right and wrong in reality, it just kind of blurrs from one to another. A 12 y o having sex is wrong, and a 20 yr o having sex is ok, how on earth do you draw the line inbetween though especially considering that people mature at different rates.
But that's idealistic and the law doesn't work like that! How can you have 'shades of grey'? How would you formulate that into hard law? 'Well, it's sort of alright maybe if you're 15 and you're quite grown up for your age'? I know what you're saying that you don't suddenly become capable/mature enough to have sex overnight when you turn 16, but that's what the law is because there has to be a limit. You can't start taking each case on it's merits- think floodgates! You say 'how on earth' can a line be drawn. A line HAS to be drawn. Yes it is arbitrary, but hundreds of laws are; they have to be. How would things work if we had no limits? Can we say, on your logic, that an extremely mature 13 year old should be able to drive a car because they might be more grown up than a 17 year old? Logic would dictate that is is indeed possible for the younger person to be the more mature, but surely you can see that you can't have a free for all. What, then, of the 10 year old who is hyper mature and just as mature of the afore-mentioned 13 year old? They should presumably be able to drive too? What of the eight year old who is as mature as the ten year old? Surely the farce that would ensue is evident.
It's not perfect, but it never can be.
If we have no hard rules, the country falls apart. Simple as that.
As regards the speeding example, you wouldn't get done for doing 71mph in a 70mph limit because a certain amount of leeway is given for variants in accuracy of speedos. If you were doing high 70s or 80s you would get done if caught, and rightly so- it takes you so many more yards to stop for every extra bit of speed and that puts other road users at risk.
her mum took her to be put on the pill, the reality was if she didn't her daughter would still be having underage sex if that was what she had made up her mind to do, so it was the lesser of two evils - sex would've still been had, regardless of mums approval, indifference or disaproval. its not right, but it's how it is.
(still think having sex on your mums bed is taking the piss tbh though)
You're missing the point. I've done the same, given up my bed for people staying and vice versa. But that's quite specifically with my say so. If someone who was living in my house and ought to be doing what I ask wasn't respecting the boundaries, I'd be mightily pissed off about it. If I were to catch my son shagging on my bed once, what other times don't I know about? Who else has he taken in my room? And what else has he been doing in there when I'm not around? Rooting through my things perhaps? Who knows.
It's really nothing to do with the matress.
Filfthychav, I'm glad your mum is talking to you again, hope you learn from your mistake.
