    You live & learn, eh?

    The voice of experience:
I'm not particularly interested in getting involved in flame fests - they don't really achieve anything.

The left should be putting a class analysis first and foremost before race, looking at what unites people rather than divides, while still acknowledging differences in culture.

Brixton, toxteth, Bradford...common link? race? no, white youths were there in toxteth and in brixton side by side with black kids throwing bricks.

the common link is deprivation and unemployment.

As a newcomer, I'd like to make one brief comment.
I have to say it hasn't exactly been a very warm or welcoming entrance. Almost from the start certain posters kep calling me a troll and making abusive personal remarks using words I'm not going to repeat here.
I noticed that I'm not alone in this. Perhaps you offer all newcomers "a baptism of fire", I don't know, but it won't stop me making contributions as and when I feel its appropriate.
    Thanks. Lets go forward!

your entrance into the forum has bought forth view which may conflict with those held by people already on this board, so its to be expected that when these meet in debate there is some friction.

You have been called a troll a bit though, which isnt exactley helpful.

Its not normally like this, its just in the last couple of weeks, hopefully it will change back. I havent read enough of your posts to say whether you're this or that, but normally people are relatively nice.

Actually bb, people are nice to those who display some intellectual honesty and capacity for reasoned analysis rather than rabid jingoistic banner waving and provocation. Sadly, Rich Kid burst onto these boards displaying little else and has persisted in that vein since.

Oh, ok, as I said I havent read really any of his posts, and I did say 'normally' that people are nice, sometimes the abuse is quite justified.

It would be best to have a system of candidate membership and an entrance test. If Clandestine judges that the applicant displays "intellectual honesty and capacity for reasoned analysis", full membership should be granted. Otherwise, the candidate should be roundly insulted and then banned.

I think Clandestine wants to keep it as a select club, or as least thats how it comes across to me as a newcomer. Its only a forum for God's sake!

LOL! You are a piece of work RK. No selectivity about this place, only an indictment against you for the sheer lack of substance you actually contribute to any discussion. We've seen quite a few of your inflammatory ilk come and go over the years.

Thank you Clan for your warm encouraging words! You sound like a really nice person, I'm so lucky that you take time out to make such constructive comments.

I think that you because appeared at the start of the Easter holiday and that you have spent a lot of time starting threads which would inflame the people on this board this has made me think that possibly you are some spotty 13 year old having a laugh, if I am wrong I apologies but that is what I think.

Spotty 13-year-olds should learn not to laugh. It just draws attention to their ache and underdeveloped sense of humour.

To be fair you have been reluctant to engage with other poster's questions and have shown a pretty high level of inconsistency in your viewpoint. Much as others have been unfair in their treatment of your postings you've also been in a large part involved in dragged many threads in slanging matches.

In my eyes there are a number of people here who need to accept what debate is and not simply assume it's spouting a personal viewpoint and insulting others views - you included.

:banghead: What liberal, socialist consensus? If there was a consensus of socialism on this board, I wouldn't be here!

How can there be a liberal/social consensus on a board where you post?

Sensible decent folk of this country have in my view a duty to challenge the morally bankrupt, socially divisive, economically-deficient, spin mercahnts of the liberal/socialist tendency. In my humble view this element of the political spectrum is but an unlanced boil on the backside of the body politic - it needs pricking to release the poisonous puss therein.

they have a responsibility, but by no means do they have a duty to do so
