Because that the comment which sparked this off, didn't speak about 3rd world countries perhaps?

Do you think conditions haven't improved for people in the countries listed?

The comment that said that we're a "tolerant modern capitalist society" ?

Has capital not gone global in Denmark?

    More trainers?

Improved by the fact that I am not enforced to wear a fucking yellow star on my sleeve.

Yes, I do prefer the conditions of today.

Aye, well consider yourself lucky that you're not a muslim.....

Muslims in the West aren't benefitting from all this "tolerance" that you perceive ..........

Yeah but to discuss Capitalism in a local (Western) sense is folly Jacqueline.

Capitalism is Internationalism...can you not see this?

I'm sure they have ....... and remind me what the reason was again?

I'm presuming it wasn't to be persecuted in the West.

    :)

And, perhaps you might explain how their ruling classes came to power - cos I'd like that........

Well, the Iranians left for democracy and liberty after Khomeini came to power. While the turks did so for financial gains as guestworkers originally.

An improvement on not earning a living and starving to death, yes.

    I see .......

So some left for political reasons, and some left for financial reasons.

And the West had something to do with both of those factors, yes?

    :)

Oh, is that what 'we' saved them from?

Were people starving to death before we raped their countries?

    Yes, yes...........

But it isn't quite that simple, is it?

Do you know what "hut tax" was?

    No, no.....justify yourself.

It was a widely used device of British Imperialism - taking over a country and levying a tax on each hut - payable in labour or cash - which was used to co-erce locals into the labour market, cos they weren't starving and weren't particularly interested in being cheap labour for the Bwana...........

And from there on, it got worse and worse ..........

So, working in a sweatshop or being a sex toy for fat white men might be preferable to starving, but that situation has arisen BECAUSE of what 'we' did ........

That's this nice "tolerant capitalist society" that we're discussing.

The one where 6 000 children die because of lack of access to clean water EVERY day, whilst we spend Billions of pounds on weapons with which to subjugate those who say no.

But hey, we get cheap goodies, and lots of them out it, so why should we want it to be any different?

    So, 'we' tolerate it........

I think you'll find that I was querying the idea that we have a "tolerant, modern, capitalist society" ...........

It'd be a start if people realised that its not at all tolerant, benign or even nice .

    ;)

But they weren't for the most part, were they? They had their own farming and market economies etc. I bet they'd rather be working for themselves and controlling their own lives and economies than being worked to death to provide your trainers.

Which is why I am neither a communist, nor a socialist :)

As to the "built on love" comment - twas a direct response to this:
I see no similarities between our tolerant modern capitalist society and an intolerant backwards National Socialist society based on hate.

Ours seems to built on greed and powermongering.

Do the strong always "manipulate the week"?
It is possible not to bully.......

every tribe that ever existed though has dominated another.
the strong will always manipulate the weak ...yes. if necessary making them weak.
thats our history i'm afraid ...unless you believe in a garden of eden scenario in the distant past and even in paradise ...it would seem that you had to watch your back ...

    Oh dear....

Working as a manual laboyur in a East Asian paddy field empowers no-one.

Why do you think people work in these factories? they are not forced to, so why do they do it?

That of course does not mean that people should be deliberately exploited but it true that the majority of people would rather work in a factory than on a farm because it is simply better, little dispute........

Also no-one controls their own economy or their own economic future, this is impossible in any countrey, any industyr anytime anyplace.....
