    Would you care to elaborate?

I'm sure that made sense in your head.

    It makes sense to me.

It's Auschwitz. It means "work wil set you free". An attitude that seems to be very prevalent in our late capitalist society.

Well it doesn’t make sense to me. And I find the comparison pretty sick.

I see no similarities between our tolerant modern capitalist society and an intolerant backwards National Socialist society based on hate.

Which part of my post do you dispute?

The tolerant bit? Britain is tolerant. If you think Britain’s intolerant why not visit say Saudi Arabia? Or Syria? Or how about somewhere a bit closer to home…France maybe? Don’t try and wear a headscarf in school there…And if you’re Jewish don’t wear a skullcap or Star of David.

Or was it the modern bit you disagree with? I’d say Britain is fairly modern…er we did have the first industrial revolution.

Or was it the capitalist bit? In which case I’m confused…

    Ah, arbeit macht frei.

    To an extent, maybe.

    But then again, maybe not.

The modern society might be bad, but it's probably the best so far.

We might be slaves to money, but at least we aren't legally owned by the rich.

Every society has it's downsides. But yes, I am pretty happy to live in these ages and conditions rather than Europe of the 1930s.
Comparing to that I would say that we are pretty modern and tolerant... Or do you disagree?

Er maybe that would work if you elaborated a little or explained what point you’re trying to make?

Try living in the Palestine of the 21st century - see how you like that - fancy Iraq maybe? No? Hows about a nice sweatshop in Indonesia perhaps? Uganda? Burma? Vietnam? Peru? Chechnya?

    It's a case of "I'm alright, I'm Jacq", innit!

We certainly do tolerate lots as a society .......... but not other people, and not difference

I was commenting on your reply to Disillusioned's statement. Therefore your post above doesn't make sense. As I wasn't talking about 3rd world countries.

Again, irrelevant to the point I am trying to make.

    + I don't walk in trainers.

and your point is that because you have a comfortable life, and are happy with your lot, that that makes the west "tolerant"?

And that one needn't take the rest of the world into account when weighing up the level of tolerance?

    Or did I miss something?

    No.
I am saying that conditions have improved here since the Dritte Reich. I thought it was obvious.

Ahhh...so '3rd world countries' don't come into your equation then Jacqueline?

    Thats nice.

What exactly do you mean by "improved"

    Better sense of community?

    Better sense of morality?

    Happier individuals?

    Healthier individuals?

    More trainers?
