They're virtually needed in some rural areas. The worlds crazy, we need a bit of a shake up. (not coz of 4x4's but because of everything thats going on)

They are huge, they are uneconomical, they are a waste of road, the Chelsea Tanks are driven by pricks and stupid blonde bints, the furthest they ever go off road is Waitrose's car park.
When was the last time you saw a 4x4 with mud on it in a big city? My Fiesta has done more off-road miles than most 4x4s, and it's far more economical.
a 2.4 diesel range rover does around 35 to the gallon.
are we to ban jags and bmw's that do a lot less than this?

Lets ban every goddamn thing, smoking, eating fatty food, alcohol, swearing, shouting, music, sport (they do cause an awful lot of competition you know).

And if you drive a tank you should pay more. Far more than at present, unless you can prove you have a need for it. I would suggest using the Royal Mail's off-road list as a starting place.
Anyway, they weren't saying BAN them, they were saying tax them off the roads. Quite reasonable I think.

In all seriousness, no, banning these things is stupid. Taxing them heavily is sensible- they weigh more, and cause more damage to the roads. Caravans should be taxed at £999 per year, because of the congestion they cause to the road network.
I would love to see 4x4s banned for all except those who need them, but it is impractical. I would love to see transit vans, caravans and lorries banned too, because they all piss the hell out of me, but again it couldn't happen.
I agree entirely. Its our own cars we can buy what we fucking like. What difference does it make if its a big car? Jags and BMW's use far more fuel than 4x4's. If anything should be banned its them.
You know your saying ban or "tax" these because they would only make things better for you: thats selfish. You wouldn't like it if something you liked, which doesn't do any harm to anyone else, was suddendly heavily taxed or banned.
I agree with size-related road tax. Why should a person driving a Reliant Robin pay the same as a Range Rover driver?

All I'm saying is that people have no need to drive 4x4s, and cities would be far less ocngested if people didn't. Tax them heavily, unless you have a good reason to own one, and make the tossers who drive them pay through the nose for being tossers.

I can agree with that, but the way its being suggested is that a reliant robin should pay the same as it does now, and a range rover pay more. Surely it would be better for the robin reliant to pay less and the range rover to pay a little more, so that an average amount of money is still made for the government.

For the record, lorries' road tax should be trebled, and caravan drivers should have to pay £100,000 pa in road tax.
If someone wants to drive a 7 seater vehicle to take Chelsea to school, then they can bloody well pay for it.

15 mile to the gallon ...v6 petrol engines in jags etc are uneconomical.

It always makes me laugh thinking about when I was at the motor racing at Oulton Park, and some plank got stuck in the mud in his Discovery, and had to be towed out by a Sierra.

Seriously though, banning them is a daft idea. I'd love to see it happen, in the same way I'd love to see fluffy dice, old drivers, caravans and lorries banned.
