Oh don't be so boring. I think having fairytale Kings and Queens in real life is quite romantic. Seriously, would you rather watch a golden horse-drawn carriage driving up the Mall or a communist-style tank parade? I know which I'd prefer.

I'd rather that the equivalent to £15 million of taxpayers money that was used on the recent wedding here, was used on education instead.

If you look at the actual figures you'll learn that the royal family generate a not insubstantial profit for the UK treasury. But ofcourse, you knew that.

here we go ...theres not a lot of difference between princes anne and
blackpool tower when it comes to amusement rides ...
and that prince andrew generates nearly as much money for the uk economy as scarborough.

Would you like to rephrase that into some kind of coherent argument? Or maybe a sentence?

Ok in extraordinarily simplified terms the UK treasury pays the official expenses of the royal family around £35million in exchange for them surrendering large chunks of their private income and estate, around £170million. Thats an £135million profit. Something largely ignored by most people who jump on the whole "lets get rid of the royals and use the money on education" bandwagon.

If we got rid of the monarchy they'd walk away considerably richer than they are at the moment.

And why you're at it why don't you just hang everyone else with earnings over £50'000 a year? How dare anyone be affluent.

you know damn well that i was saying here we go ...here come the tourist attraction figures ...they generate blah blah blah.
in my opinion, if thats yoiur only argument for retraing them as oposed to handing them over to blagsta then i'll tell you a little secret; if we stuffed them and put them on show in their palaces and open them up to the world ...we'd make five times as much!

Did you read the post? The money I was referring to isn't generated through tourism you bloody tool. It's from their PRIVATE ESTATE which they're surrendering to the UK treasury.

Not the taxpayer. Which shatters you're little "we'd be richer without them" argument.

So what precisely is wrong with an institution that serve as a source of tourism, generate a profitable income for the UK treasury and act as a figurehead for the country?

It goes against his idyllic socialist views. Anyone who doesn't work for a living or lives in a house worth more than £300,000 is scum.

Arrogance? I dont own a house. I dont have a job. I dont have decent qualifications. I am worth approximatly £0. Where was the arrogance in showing contempt for socialist views? It was kinda a piss take.
