It is not just that someone be denied the right to legally cement their relationship unlike a heterosexual couple.

Adoption by gay couples is frowned upon because of ignorance and sick-minded thinking. It is assumed by sexually repressed and dirty minded people that homosexuals are perverts and as such are more likely to sexually abuse and molest children. They justify this thinking by claiming that many homosexuals first experimented with other boys while they were still children, including activities like circle jerks, etc... So, this naturally leads them to conclude that homosexuals will have such fond memories of their earlier experiences as children that they will then wish to continue doing these things with children once they become adults. This sort of thinking is so skewered and twisted that its scary. These are the same people who forget that ALL children experiment with some sort of sexual touchy-feely games while quite young.

The world is a sad, sad place when such unfounded ideas can be believed as truth.
