Here at The Mix, we've been wondering whether anyone would be interested in doing our very own light-hearted competition throughout the World Cup? You don't have to be interested in football or even follow it closely, it would just be a small competition to see who wins!

This would be done as a sweepstake, and essentially if you are interested, let us know by replying to this thread or DMing us, and we will randomly assign everyone a team(s) taking part in the World Cup. The rest is easy, just sit back and see which teams go through and win the World Cup, cheering on your assigned team of course! The Community member with the winning team following the final on Sunday 19th July will be given a prize…

@River basically you will get given a team in the World Cup (or maybe more than one depending on numbers) and you just have to hope they win, you get a prize if the team wins!

Since there are 12 of you who wish to take part, we've given you all 4 teams each - as the teams in the World Cup are split into 12 groups of 4, we have given you all one group each to make sure everyone has a fair chance going into the knockout rounds. A random generator was used to give you all a group each so that there's no bias involved.

So how this will work is: Your group and the teams within that group are announced below. For the first 2 and a half weeks, it's the group stages - this means your 4 teams will each play one another in order to build mini leagues for each group, which will determine which teams go through to the next round. This part is all about collecting points to see which teams are the strongest!

On 29th June, the 32 best teams will begin to take part in the Round of 32. This is when the groups start to play each other, so the competition between everyone begins. There is then the Round of 16, Quarter Finals, Semi-Finals, and Third Place games, and the ultimate Final on 19th July.

@so_very_tired the prize will be announced further into the competition, but there will be a prize for the winner of the final! For now though, the focus is on which teams are going to do well in the group stages and go through to the Round of 32.
@River don't feel any pressure to watch the matches! You just need to keep an eye on the scores, but we'll update this thread with the scores and tag those who's teams are involved - that way everyone will get a notification when there's a post that concerns their team.

The World Cup has arrived! The first match starts tonight! ⚽️
Tonight we have the Opening Ceremony of the World Cup followed by the first two matches of the competition. Since the World Cup is being held across the continent of North America and therefore because of the time difference, the matches are taking place during the evenings and into the early hours of the mornings, UK time. As promised though, we will share daily updates on the recent scores, and what matches are due to be played that evening along with the kick-off time (in UK time) and where the match is coming from.
