donating blood

toffuna101toffuna101 Posts: 3,097 Boards Guru
so im going to be donating blood on my 17th birthday in one of the uk's blood donation centres. the minimum age to donate blood is 17 so ill just about meet the age criteria to donate blood. now im not really a big fan of blood tests so i wanted to book in a blood donation appointment to see if i can go out of my comfort zone. besides, im doing it for a good cause and my blood will go to someone in need. now since i live in hertfordshire the nearest blood donation centres are in london but theres not really any parking nearby and they kind of require you to go by train. so therefore i had to book it somewhere else. id rather donate in a donation centre than a community venue because i think it just seems more proper in my opinion. the community venues just sound a bit sketchy but i dont know if its just me or not.

note: ok after digging for a little bit edgware donor centre in london has parking at the back of the donation centre but for some reason when i searched up london edgware donor centre didnt show up so its strange. plus edgware donor centre only has bookings from the 21st of july so thats one day off my birthday. i kind of want to donate on my 17th birthday exactly because then that would be kind of like a special day for me to donate blood if you get what i mean. i should have done more research to be honest lol.

@toffuna101 i would delete the last paragraph if the venue is Edgware just incase there is any creeps looking as a guest or what not just to be safe
Sometimes when the people most like you don't love you, it is a hurt that can cause the greatest pain, and this pain can lead you to hate everything.

That sounds like a very good thing your going to be doing soon and I think it's fantastic you want to donate blood too because a donation can definitely save lives. I've been thinking about donating but I'm unsure at the moment, I have got lots of family members who have donated their blood over the years. Good luck with it and I'm sure you will do brilliantly x

Aw thank you, its kind of been something I always wanted to do in a way because I know that donating blood is a good thing to do. To be able to save a life via a blood donation I think is pretty cool to do. I know a while ago there was a blood donation shortage and they were trying to get more people especially young people to donate too. My college at the time did a blood bank and I considered it then but I had to go to class and stuff and I wouldent have had enough time to have done it, plus filling out all of the paperwork on the day.

yeah the paperwork is always something that you have to do so I understand why you didn't do it.

Hey @toffuna101 - it's amazing to see that you're looking into blood donation. From a fellow donor, thank you for signing up for this, at a time when donations are in high demand!

I hear that you're excited but also nervous about the appointment, and that's a valid and common feeling to have going into this. I can't speak for all venues, but for all the ones I've been to, the staff are really welcoming and helpful especially for people donating for the first time.

Wish you all the best for your first session! Do let us know how you find the appointment once you attend!

@toffuna101 , how are you feeling now that it's 10 days to go?

I found this article which I thought might feel helpful as you prepare for your appointment - https://www.blood.co.uk/the-donation-process/preparing-to-give-blood/.

When you say that you are feeling a little bit nervous too, what would you say you're nervous about happening? We're here with you and listening!
