13 years

So as yall pretty much know im adopted and on Thursday it will be 13 years since I moved in with mum. Mum brought it up and said that she won't make a fuss about it but she has said that on Thursday she will take me to the cinema to watch despicable me 4 and we will get some dinner out. She said that she isnt gonna bring it up on the day or even before so everything can remain as calm as possible

Thank you for sharing this with us @Rose113. What a big anniversary coming up - I can imagine you're feeling all sorts of emotions. Anniversaries can resurface a lot of things for us and it's totally valid to find this time of year tricky.

It sounds like your mum has organised something fun on the day for you to focus on. But it's also okay to feel whatever emotions you're feeling and allow yourself to sit with that. Is there anything that you feel you need to help you on the day and in the lead up?

I'm sorry that your mum blurted it out in front of her friends who you aren't close to yourself. I can imagine this must feel quite invasive and uncomfy hearing your mum talk about something so personal in public with someone you don't know. It might be worth sharing with your mum how that made you feel? It's okay to have boundaries and the people we love should respect that.

@Rose113 it's lovely that you and your mum are commemorating the special day doing something nice, but I can also understand why you might feel annoyed for bringing it up to her friends. I don't think she meant any harm by it, I think she is just proud of to show you off.
