General election - who are you voting for? (re-poll!)

Recently I posted this general election thread but borked the poll. Rishi Sunak also decided to bring the election forward (much to the surprise of his own party) so that thread is outdated.

The general election is now scheduled for 4th July.

So here's a new poll (with all options this time). I've made it anonymous, but would love to hear your reasoning and your thoughts going into the election if you're happy to share them.

As always you're welcome to debate and discuss, long as y'all stay civil.

ALSO, some things you should know for this election:

It's being held on July 4th, which is a Thursday
You need voter ID now (click here for all accepted forms)
If you're 18+ but unable to vote, you can use a proxy vote (where someone votes on your behalf) or a postal vote instead - if you need either of these, you must apply ASAP
There are new constituency boundaries this year, supposedly to even out voter numbers and reflect population changes, which means who you can vote for in your area might change (the BBC have a good section in this article - if you scroll down you can enter your postcode to see if your constituency is changing)
If you don't know who to vote for, you can take this quiz to see which party aligns most with your beliefs and values

That's very fair @ebyrne556! People I know are more torn this year than previous years.

Do you mind if I ask who you're deciding between?

The quiz was interesting but I imagine as so many people want tories out there will be a lot of tactical voting rather than folk voting for the party they actually want.

Im also not sure who I want to vote for personally. The thing is im torn between either Plaid Cymru or green party (only because green party tend to do a lot of climate change and that is something I care about a lot). I also would either go for plaid as I am Welsh and I think they mentioned about doing more for people with disabilities and who are neurodiverse. However, I am not sure if what they say they will actually do if they did get in. Im a bit stuck. I'm glad you shared the quiz though I might have a go at it and see

Funny enough I did the quiz and it said most of my views ans beliefs align with the women's equality party.

Of course @Slinky! I enjoy voting a bit too much tbh. 😅

I think you might be right about tactical voting. Although I've also heard people close to me say that because the Tories are set for such a huge defeat, they're less worried about tactical voting because the Tories are likely to go out regardless of who wins.

I'm not sure where I stand on that personally. I tend to vote quite tactically but this year I'm not so sure - the Green party align better with me than the others, but depending on how my consistuency is likely to vote (I need to check this) I might go Labour for tactical reasons.

Probably not a surprise to anyone here that I'm a progressive at heart!

@JustV I think it may have helped me a bit to think about who I could vote for personally. The thing I am still undecided. As a welsh person though I have a feeling I might be voting for plaid Cymru.

I'd normally vote Labour but I've been paying more attention to things happening in my local area over the last few years and I'm not terribly impressed. Since I am in Wales, I am becoming more interested in Plaid Cymru. Though I'm also curious about Lib Dem seeing as their leader is focused a lot on caring responsibilities (something close to my heart).

@Maisy Also can't decide. It's something that's stressing me out quite a lot because it feels like there's a lot on the line and it's my first general election and I really thought I knew who I would vote for but I don't. I struggle in situations where there's not a "right" decision which is making this especially hard because I'm hearing people give all sorts of reasons trying to persuade people to vote "X" party.

Didn't know that about LibDem, that's interesting - thanks for bringing that up, might look into that a bit more

I’m just gonna vote tactically. I don’t really understand much of it lol but the most important thing to me is that the conservatives get out.

@AnonymousToe I also feel the same too about it too as I feel like I may do a tactical vote because I really want to get the tories out of parliament personally because I don't think they have helped any of the uk at all.

However, on a different note I was looking at the parties I like the most and I found out that plaid cymru in general seem to be quite supportive of the lgbtq+ community which is very good of them to do. I know green party and lib dem are quite the same as well. I feel like I want to vote for a constituency that supports the community in general as this is something I hold quite close to me. I just want a constituency that will actually listen to what young people want than rather pretending to listen and doing things that are unnecessary or make it worse for young people in the UK. Especially as I feel like I want a party that supports the trans community because right now they are being isolated and they need to ve more involved in things.
