Not feeling 100 percent well

FordRangerFordRanger Posts: 1,395 Wise Owl
I just get so stressed and overwhelmed often because I'm just job hunting. I'm trying, but it is not easy. I do feel fine, but I think and worry a lot about the job hunting process and get negative about it, which stresses me out and brings me back down again. I think within the past few months, I have been becoming more stressed about it as time goes on. I think it's just the uncertainty of it, and also I think I just have a lot of pressure from myself to get sorted. I'm trying a bit to make improvements to myself too. I think I have improved since maybe a few months ago or maybe a year or two plus ago and still am trying to make improvements. The odd person has said I have made improvements too, but getting settled into a job would be great, and I could just go from there in terms of careers, routine, saving, etc. The stress and negative emotions are just getting to me. I was in bed the other day, feeling rock bottom and extremely behind in life.

Job hunting is stressful, even at the best of times. I notice that you say that you are just job hunting and this leads me to think that most of your time is spent job hunting. I'm wondering if you manage to fit in time to do things that you enjoy doing and that help to make you feel good and relax a bit?

It's understandable that one moment you might feel fine, only to find yourself worrying about the job hunting and then negative about it all. Perhaps you can take the time to notice when you start thinking about it negatively and try to remind yourself that you are a) actively job hunting b) spending lots of time job hunting and c) making improvements (and anything else you can think of). It can be helpful to think of all the good things that you are doing to help ease the negative thinking so you won't get so down about it.

Uncertainty can be difficult to deal with. I also notice that you mentioned about how once you get a job, you can go from there in terms or routine. I'm wondering whether you have much routine at the moment? I understand that there are some things that are difficult to do without a job e.g. saving money. But things like making and keeping to a routine can still be done, even without a job. Perhaps you can divide up your time into looking and applying for jobs, as well as things you enjoy doing? You might find the uncertainty of not working a bit better if you have a routine you can follow.

@Maisy thanks so much for your reply. I do other stuff as well as job hunting, I think I said I'm "just job hunting" because I'm currently doing it for a bit everyday. I do other things too but yh sometimes I'm not in the mood to do stuff I enjoy. It's a good idea too like routine is, if maybe you could please reply to this and maybe give me something to as in routine like something divided up with the job hunting too just for the meantime? I can have a look at what you say. A lot of stuff I want to do does require money. I do have a bit of routine atm but tbh I could do with going out more, it's just a matter of what to do because I'm not a fan of sport tbh, I enjoy stuff like cars, would enjoy to go like events with different vehicles like maybe a motorhome show or car show but it requires money. If I had a job I'd be more likely to be able to go if I had money. In terms of non car related I used to go different areas around the uk, stay in a hotel, go to a nice place to eat maybe see what there is to in other areas, even if it's just something you could do at home or I spend time in the hotel room it's kind of still good getting away a bit. I occasionally sit outside in the garden at which gets fresh air now it's getting warmer. So overall I can improve my routine too, I just need to get something in terms of a proper job and income apart from that I don't think mine is too bad at all, there's always room for improvement though if you don't mind giving suggestions if possible. It's just as well as this I just really need to get sorted too. Cheers

    Hey there,

Good to know that you do other things and not just job searching! I'm not very good at coming up with routines either but for me, my weekly routine often involves:
    • Exercise (going out for a walk, or doing some exercises at home)
    • Job search (searching for jobs, editing my CV and drafting cover letters)
    • Volunteer (online or in person)
    • Free time (hobbies or whatever I want do)
    • Self-care (taking care of hygiene)
    • Chores (it's a good idea to keep productive and on top of every day tasks such as making your bed, tidying/cleaning your room or helping out with stuff around the house).
    • Family time (or any form of socialising)

I don't do all things from the list everyday but I do try to schedule them so that I do them every few days. Not sure if this is any help to you. But in general, I find that doing a mixture of things can help to take my mind off dwelling on negative thoughts and helps me to feel a bit better about myself.

It's really good to hear that you have an interest in cars. Keep an eye out for events in your area though- there might be some free car events (in my area there was a vintage car event in a local park which was free to attend, perhaps there are some things like that in your area?). I understand the feeling of needing money to do things though. But I like that you are also trying to find things you can do e.g. go out in the garden to enjoy the warmer weather.

Hang in there and best wishes with the job hunt!
