I get to see him
While this isn't guaranteed I feel the need to celebrate. My best friend Thomas is coming tomorrow. I'm incredibly excited. Those of you that know of him, know that he's really special to me. He's been away for three weeks. I am elated at the prospect of seeing him in person.

Aw so happy for you that you finally got to see each other! How are you feeling now you've seen him?
I think setting clear boundaries may be good for everyone, do you think you would approach her to ask if/why she feels uncomfortable with you both being friends? It could open up a chance to have a really honest conversation so may be good for all parties.
Is he back to stay?
I definitely think you're right, no point in overanalysing the whole thing so long as you and Thomas are getting on well and nothing is actually encroaching on their romantic relationship. I'm wondering if there is any context in which the girlfriend and you could strike up some natural convos that aren't based around Thomas? I know it sounds silly but even like 'omg I watch The Vampire Diaries too' could work
