I received an email today from uni regarding my mitigating circumstances...they have allowed me to retake 2 whole modules without capping my marks. I am extremely pleased that I have the opportunity and I am genuinely thrilled about them allowing me to do my retakes over the summer as it means I don't have to retake the whole year which was the original plan...however, I am feeling quite overwhelmed at the amount of work (I have 5 weeks to write 2 essays and sit an exam!?!) and I have no notes because they got lost in the move and I am managing my Dept for 3 of those weeks whilst my manager buggers off on hols...but I will do it...it might mean sleepless nights and tears and doubts in my abilities but I will do it...I will fight for it...and right now I'm going to confirm I want to do it, decline my 3 different places on different college courses and start planning these essays!!!!! *and breathes....*

 this! You can do it.
So pleased for you.
Like others have said - bite sized chunks. You know the stuff - you can easily do this if you put your mind to it.
First things first, get the diary out. Put all your work/other commitments into it.
Then write a list of what needs to be done with the uni stuff - split it into bitesize chunks and slot them into the slots on the diary. We'll help you.
I found that trying to plan slightly further ahead, and making reaslitic chunks really helped with a sense of perspective.
Also, don't forget the value of planning when you're dealing with essays. I'm sure you know all this, but you can make a lot of progress with an essay without writing any sentances or paragraphs. Mindmapping, spidergrams, bullet points etc are all valuable tools on the way to the finished essay and can be easier to do before/after work or in lunch breaks than actually writing the prose. Then you can splurge the paragraphs at another point, and then come back and do the formatting at another point.
Again, referencing and formatting is something that's often easily done in the evening in front of the tv/after work.
Me?! Crikey. Been a while. I'll see what I can dig up from previous threads but might not be til tomorrow afternoon.
You've had practise, and can provide some guidance and reassurance my dear.
I'll do my best .
The best tip I can give you is to do it as you go along. Especially if it's a long essay with lots of sources. Either write them all down on a separate sheet (saves having to change everything if you add/remove any in your final draft) or add them as you're writing.
What's your subject?
The first is Contemporary Issues in Management and the second one is International Marketing Management.
Thanks YSH...we use the Harvard Referencing system...im not sure how different they all are?
If you're someone who likes specialist software, EndNote is good.
I used Harvard, found it really easy. Some basic info on this sheet (it refers to UCL policy, but Harvard referencing as a style doesn't change between universities).
I promised I would make my Dad proud; therefore, I WILL graduate next Jan! :d
Go you. That's a fantastic start. As things progress, you might find it handy to have some kind of plan, or at least list of things to achieve (slightly more broken down into chunks than essay 1, essay 2, revise) so that you can put MASSIVE ticks next to them.
You're doing brilliantly - getting started is always the hardest part and you've just aced that.
Thanks
I am really rubbish at planning when it comes to coursework. When I do my exam I will have a proper revision timetable in place and revision cards made, etc.
I tend to find as I start my essay I then make a plan, so for instance, I know that although I have written the section in the actual essay I need to do a PESTLE analysis to include in my appendices and have made a separate note...also this particular essay has three parts so I have split each part into two so I have research findings and recommendations. As the three parts aren't equal in marks I have also estimated a percentage of the wordcount to each question to reflect that.
I think I need to write a plan at the start of each day and bullet point what parts I want to have covered...I guess that way I know exactly what I will achieve and by when...I am much more focused this time round though and I feel my head is in a better place. Also, doing this unit has made me reconsider marketing as a career choice and I made plans for what I want to do on graduation as an incentive...
"I am currently writing my IMM retake assignment; however, I was wondering whether you could give me some guidance on whether or not I am along the right lines with my current draft?
I have attached a copy of my first draft that, so far, only answers question 1 and the beginnings of question 2 and doesn’t include the correct references or appendices that will document the relevant case studies which support my arguments. I am just unsure as to whether I am on the right lines or should be addressing the assignment in a completely different way?
I understand that you may not be able to give me specific feedback on the draft I have included; however, any advice you can give would be gratefully received?"
