Clever enough to admit it, UK and USA invaded afghanistan and involved us in a costly and troublesome war.
So shit, hes still dead.
Initially the FBI said it had "overwhelming evidence" that he was behind the attacks. As time went on it became embarrassingly obvious that it was just bullshit to get support for invading Afghanistan etc.
RAH RAH RAH!
There was video of what is supposedly him in person admitting to the attacks, but he also apparently had communication with a French newspaper and denied it before the video was released.
There's really nothing connecting him to it, other than one highly dubious video.
Realistically, governments never reveals everything at its disposal and given that the person they declared it to be wound up confessing to it assures us that the sting agencies of the government have a little more information at their disposal than the average schmo. The fact that both the United States and United Kingdom have come to the same conclusion based on the classified data is also an indicator that there isn't some crazy conspiracy going on. Now, if you want to make the case that information being classified implies something fishy, you're going to have to reconcile a lot of historical counter-examples.

Islamic fundamentalists cannot hate us more than they already do. In the last ten years, they've attempted to "retaliate" numerous times. Al-Qaeda is not Obi-wan Kenobi, where if you strike them down, they become more powerful than we could ever imagine. Trust me, if they had the capability of doing us serious harm, they wouldn't wait until Osama was dead to do it.
By no means is his death going to stop Muslim agitation of the western way of life, but it it a milestone to off the figurehead of terrorism. It is one less mujahadeen roaming the Earth, which is a big deal.

In the following dialogue between Bill O'Reilly and Michael Moore, we can see that the whole "blood for oil" campaign is nonsense. (Be sure to watch part 2.)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=trOdCU6aZOg&feature=related
If the war was about oil, why are the prices of oil rising? Why are we still in the political turmoil regarding oil? Moreover, how do you account for the fact that it took us 10 years to find the most wanted man in the world, when we gave months notice before shit got real?
Assuming you're referring to this?:

In summary: There was a slip of the tongue. He meant to say Saddam, when he made that statement.
As for the FBI:

Zoink.
Look up "taqiyya".
I've not said there is a conspiracy going on. I'm not one of those people that thinks your wonderful government was behind 9/11. Bin Laden probably had a hand in the attacks but your FBI's words just after 9/11 were that they had "overwhelming evidence" of him being responsible. A few days later they said they were still collating it (especially when the Taliban said they'd hand Osama over if proof was offered). When pressed by your country's media they then said they 'still hoped to be able to produce the evidence in a timely manner' which after a few days was downgraded to 'just trust us on this, he's guilty'.
Again I stress I'm not saying he did not play a part in the planning. But why was there no mention of the September 11th attacks, the worst terrorist incident in your country ever, on his FBI Most Wanted list? Could it be that that this initial 'overwhelming evidence' was neither overwhelming or evidence?
It's all moot now of course, your country invaded Afghanistan as required, Bin Laden is dead, your country is still partying and hi5-ing each other until they pass out. He confessed which is proof enough for many of your people, even though a confession alone for a crime is not tantamount to a conviction.
They were going a bit too fast.
You're saying "your wonderful government" like I'm an avid supporter of it. I'm a Libertarian, which should be very telling about my feelings of the government.
Anyway...

Side note: Respect. I learned a new word by reading your post.
"Evidence"? :P
Sending thousands of our troops abroad for no obvious reason obviously doesn't cut it in the fickle mind of a yank.
chortle
Edit: I don't understand the arguments that it would have been too difficult to capture him alive, most of the Nazi high command were captured alive, surely they were more dangerous people?
Not on a personal level they weren't. The main fear was that they'd take cyanide not that they were wearing explosive belts or would shoot their way out.
Also being cynical the UK did want to shoot them all out of hand...
They are asking if you support bin ladens actions I guess.
Ignore them cupcake, don't engage in debate with people who ask you questions like that- they don't want a question answered they are merely trying to hurt you. Don't let them. If you know of a safe and sympathetic adult nearby it is worth you telling them what's going on.
Did i miss something, are we in school?
It means they're wankers. I've got an incident to deal with in school where 2 Indian lads have been asked the same question. Some people are fucking morons, don't answer them, just tell them to fuck off. Then tell your teacher.
No, but Cupcake is and she's got racist pieces of shit asking her questions like that.
You know what they mean. Don't play that game.
She's like 13, she probably had no idea who the guy was before this happened.
They're either genuinely interested in whether you believe in al Qaeda and all it stands for, or they're asking racist questions to deliberately hurt you.
I wonder which one it might be? :chin:
I find that particularly difficult to believe, especially from someone whose signature includes quotes from MLK and Anne Frank. While xenophobia and racism have to be utterly condemned (yeah, yeah, platitudes, I know), being disingenuous about it really only hurts her: there are plenty of people here who could give her excellent advice and perspective, presumably having experienced this stuff first-hand themselves, but this isn't they way to extract it.
Difficult to believe, maybe. But she would have been, what, three? I dunno. Benefit of the doubt.
She would have been three when it happened; it's the ten years after when everybody got to know about him.
Ten years? Before last week I hadn't heard all that much about him for a good few years.
