Nah, I agreed with DUS' emergency debate that suggested DICCU (I cant read that acronym without giggling at the irony!)should shut up. Bloody God botherers I wouldnt mind, but they came to Aidans to do a talk, and one of the speakers did, and I quote, "give one of the Aidans faithful more than pastoral care with his holy water". LOL.
Faith is not the same as religion, as you can believe in God without being a member of any church/mosque/synagogue. Faith is a goo force, as it makes people into more tolerant beings, whereas religion, especially stoid, structured organisations liked the Anglican or Catholic Church, merely preach intolerance (of gays, women, divorced people, etc) and hatred.
Actually, I used the Catholic Church as one of my examples. Theravada Buddhism was another (looking up Monks in the Bangkok Post), and Islam another (although I probably should have been a bit more specific as to what portions of Islam).
Look at the Universe. Is there a God?? You decide.
Well I didnt write it!
I can't comment on Buddhism or Islam because I know little about them, but I believe Christianity is about a personal relationship with God. I'm not a Catholic, and disagree with parts of their church precisely because of the Pope and confession to a priest, both of which effectively cut off the big man with the ordinary folk.
As I said, I think most people believe that there is a God of some sort, but I would argue that there is no point in believing in God if you have no relationship with Him.
I do see why people choose to leave their religion. In every religion you will find people who will take advantage of the believers and that will use their powers to manipulate and make changes that suit themselves.
I am not saying that there is one way of following every religion. I am very against fundamentalism. When you cant question the religion and get proper answers, then its most likely to be a way for the heads of the religion to get power and money.
I don’t think that religion should be taken of the schedule in school. Its practically history. You cant deny that religion has brought us to where and how we are today. For example: Wars. Without knowing the history or religion of the parts involved, then you wont understand how they got there in the first place.
And yeah every religion has a downside, but even though when you quote someone, please tell who has said so. Religious Jews are not fond of Jews marrying non-Jews, but I want to know exactly where it is written or who has said that the Jews see non-Jews as dirty. And about the blowing up part, that’s a whole other discussion, and I would be glad to take that up some time.
Apart from that, Have a nice day
