Lots of frustrated men, check. Why is this?
See my post on the fact that eventually it works. Blame the women who occasionally go for this kind of thing as much as the men who are being stupid about trying to get what they want.
Okay, what should these men be doing then? They obviously haven't a clue what to do, hence the pathetic and scary attempts.
Care to elaborate?
Looks like once again I am left all alone in the real world.
I bet klintock's one of them.
I'm the bloke telling jokes to the hen night (who will do the whole groping thing at the drop of a hat, btw) or dancing with half the room. Works much better. I'm still after the same thing, I just got better tactics.
hahahahaahha made me think of the playing the probabilities method employed by some people
my best mates mate who a complete knob imo even when he had a girlfriend went out and pulled LOADS of girls, he's a complete sleazebag but a signifigant minority of girls didn't care as they just wanted a fuck as well - the girls who said no thanks or slapped him, he jsut ignored and kept trying
however some people wouldnt do it if it didnt work
Yeah, exactly.
And women use the same tactic. It's the easiest way to make sure you pull.
I've had many a drunk bird come up and start talking dirty or trying to grind up and down me.
It reminds me of a Kevin Bloody Wilson song - "Do You Fuck on First Dates".
I haven't read any of them sinse I was about 18 but as I remember while they do objectify women the jokes tend to be written with the assumption that the reader is male and with a girlfriend ... so there's some hot women to look at while the missus isn't watching and some tongue in cheek banter. To be honest its like a lads night in the pub in a magazine. I don't think its particularly damaging to society.
Arse pinching and objectifying ... think it goes equally for both sexes. I've no doubt its more intimidating for a lass to be sleazed on by a group of lads than lasses to lads but its pretty common both ways. I don't think magazines can be blamed for that kind of behaviour ... notch that one up to binge drinking
Ok, so you think it contributes?
I still don't know how you're making this comparison. The patriarchical situation is a political one, the objectification one is something that belongs to the media.
The two are not separate.
I think there is a relationship between the media, society, culture, ideology, politics etc, yes. I don't however think its a direct linear relationship in the way that you seem to think I do.
So you're trying to say that politicians deliberately let women being objectified so they can justify giving them low pay
Stop being so simplistic.
I'm not. You said the two are not separate so I just assumed you were on about that in relation to the debate. Of course they're related to some degree but in the context of this debate it shouldn't be mentioned.
You appear to think that there is a direct realtionship between these things, that "politicians deliberately let women being objectified so they can justify giving them low pay". That is a very simplistic view of politics, culture and ideology. As I said in a previous post - there is a relationship between these things, but it is a complex one. Drawing the conclusion that you did from what I said is simplistic bollocks.
Hold on Blag...it was me who said you shouldn't make such comparisons in the first place, you're the one who said politics and the media were not separate without elaborating on what you meant by that in the context of the debate so I just assumed you meant they were connected that's all.
Yes, they're connected, but not in the simple way that you suggested. Its a lot more subtle and complex than that.
How so?
The media reflects the cultural currents in society, but also helps create them. How much is reflecting and how much creating, I haven't a clue and its not even a simple causal relationship like you suggest. If you're interested in this stuff, read some introductory cultural studies and media studies books.
Well why do you think "lads mags" are only a relitavely new thing when patriarchical beliefs have existed long before them?
are both worth reading. In fact the "Introducing..." series are all really good.
I don't know. Marketing, the need for the magazine business to find a new market in the 1990's, the reflection of a cultural change in the 90's into the 00's, the defeat of the left within mainstream public discourse. Many reasons.
[ETA]
although I think that "lads mags" are just an extension and progression from page 3, nudie calendars, the KP peanut girl in pubs etc.
I agree but fuck it every now and then its nice to read some smut!
like i said earlier ...trends ...they come and go.
remember the parents and proffesionals of the early seventies being drawn in by dr spock about childcare?
whole health systems took up his ideas ...thirty years later it was all chucked out and mr spock was also found to have been a child abuser!
i think some of you read to much ...in the belief it gives you a better understanding ...only to find twenty years down the line it's decided it was all bollox.
common sense and the SIMPLE approach often prove to be far more trustworthy.
mountains out of molehills and looking for bogeymen.
All sexual power and choice does reside with women. Unless we are talking rape of course. Which we aren't.
Are you fucking insane Blagsta?
What possible basis do you have for saying it's any other way?
Is there and "introducing reality" book you can go read?
