I do read the Ladies Confessions with a sort of scepticism, I have to admit - they sometimes read like bad porn film plots - I would be intrigued to know how many are actually genuine, or whether I've just led an extremely sheltered life!!

Oh yes I read one that was obviously bullshit it was about airline stewerdess it said somethings I could beleive, like they go round in the morning spotting all the men who wake with errections, but then some stuff that was all made up, like when a new male member of staff join the crew they have to lie on the floor and the girls will all stand over tham with nothing on under their skirts and the guys have to match the girl to what theyde seen.

A lot of them are clearly bullshit

Its like I've always said - the difference between mens and womens magazines is this - womens magazines will tell you how to sexually satisfy your man in hope of him sticking around - mens magazines will tell you have to sexually satisfy your woman so she'll tell all of her friends and then they'll shag you too!
  but then what is a woman doing with a guy wanting that in the first place?

    Iknowyourmum says -

What people say they like in a partner/sex is not normally what they actually end up going for.
    Blagsta says -
I also notice how the opinions of women on this thread have been largely ignored.

Not at all. Pointing out that some women wind up sleeping with the gropers (which is why they grope in the first place) is stating facts.

there has always been groping and leering.
it was much worse before these mags ever appeared ...it is less so now becuase of industrial rules and workers rights ...thought you'd a known that one blag.

Yes, I'm fully aware of what industrial legislation is thanks. I'm just wondering how its relevant. I'm also wondering how you got the impression that I think that women never got sexually harrassed before lads mags, especially seeing as I have explicitly stated that lads mags are just an extension things that have come before.

Yes, so have I. However letters of those sort in lads mags are made up by the male editorial team. Same as letters in porn mags.

this post has nothing to do with blagsta ok?

in the sixties and through the seventies there were dreadful programmes such as benny hill and carry on whatever ...all about leering and groping.
the sad thing about them was they were actualy reflecting what people in the work place found funny.
how many people in the work place ...or on holiday ...or on a night out actualy behaved.
pathetic as those programmes were they did reflect society at large.
thintgs haven't changed that much apart from laws making it less acceptable.
so i don't believe for a minute these mags have much if any impact at all.
people ...even the badly educated ...are usualy far more savvy than some would have you believe.

    Was that really necessary ?

So what if he is one of the eldest here, is it really that relevant ?

so does that mean people cant voice their opinion if they are in the older age group ?

DONT bring age into the fucker.

Yes, I'm well aware that these things have been around for a long time. I even said so in my posts - why not read them sometime?

However - just because a cultural phenomenon has been around for a long time, doesn't make it right. Just because a cultural phenomenon has been around for a long time doesn't mean it doesn't have an influence on culture. I'm not arguing for a direct and obvious link (again, if you'd actually bothered to read my posts, you would know this), but there is an influence.

Or don't you think that the media and advertising affects anyone at all?

Yeah I might well be, but I was attempting to have a discussion about objectification and then I cop a load of unjustified shit off mr. I think I have the right to reply, don't you?

Oh for fucks sake mr, I'm not arguing that these mags have a direct causal effect on how people view women - not in the way that you seem to think anyway. What I am arguing is that the media and advertising have an influence on culture and ideology - and that this in turn has an effect on how people view the world.

And what culture would you rather, you'd rather we'd all walk around like robots and not leer? While lads mags may feed the culture, it'll always be there, the leering and groping will always be there. It's an extension to the culture, so what? What are you going to do about it?
