And its virtually never a 'need' anyway, its a desire.
I don't need drugs thank you.
Okay you have an understanding but you will never fully understand what a crack addict is going through.....
Lets say someone close to you loses someone dear to them, you would be there and yes you would have an understanding of how they are feeling but unless you too had lost someone dear to you, you wouldn't know how that felt would you..........
Lets say someone you know breaks up with their partner and you for example have never been in a relationship, yes, you would feel for that person and be compassionate and again have an understanding but once again wouldn't fully understand what that person was going through....
These are examples that are not associated with drugs but relevant all the same..... :crazyeyes
I'll be waiting for your reply especially Bong....
They may think they need them, but most dont, only alcoholics and those addicted to benzo or barbs could be said to 'need' the drugs.
So all law and policy makers should become crack addicts so they know what its like?
Why not!? Those stiffs in Parliament need something to chill themselves out! They always look so angry and all have red heads!
They should all just get on it! lol It would be much better viewing if all those in the house of Parliament were shocking out! I'm raving i'm raving!
And the whole House smoking lots of rocks would calm them down?
Jezz your like a thorn in my side!
Let me guess.... middle class student!??
Conversely, those who take drugs lose perspective on what makes non-drug takers so concerned about drug use...
And there is a difference between empathising and understanding, which is a distinction not apparent in your opinion...
Its been many many years since I was a student.
Oh sorry, so..... middle class old pensioner then......
So your saying that non-drug users are superior because they look at non-drug users and pity them, as the drug users have lost all perspective….. and what? so that makes them less intelligent??
And errr………. I think you will find that empathising and understanding mean the same thing sweetheart!
So you could empathise with a complex mathematical problem?
But I believe that to argue that you have to take drugs to legislate or have an understanding of drug use and abuse is self defeating. Fact is, most of the population doesn't use illegal drugs, so all we can hope is that non users are prepared to listen to logical arguments advocating sympathetic legislation.
To empathise is to understand emotionally or directly identify with - putting yourself in somone elses shoes. To understand is to intellectually and logically comprehend, without having to experience it. Although you are right, the two are used interchangeably.
No, you're wrong and completely off track. Addicts are a minority.
I am not saying that if you dont take drugs, you have no understanding whatsoever, that would be rediculous, but if you have taken drugs before or do take drugs, then you would have a better understand, would you not?? i guess it is a grey area, i take drugs very rarely tbh and its not something i want in my life forever, for example if i had children and i only really do it when its around me, peer pressure perhaps but then if i really didnt want to do something i wouldn't............ so who knows hey!
This thread has gone way off the original post hummmmm??!
oh and how does being a middle class student relate to this?
Why? are you a middle class student?
They're fun.
Errr...the same reason people drink alcohol, or do anything they enjoy. Dancing, watching tv, reading, socialising...
Because they can be fun, interesting, enlightening, wonderful, relaxing, amusing....etc.
Of course they can be other things too.
People have always used intoxicants and they always will, from kids spinning round really fast in the playground to seedy opium dens, its human nature.
