Granted opiate addicts tolerance goes up and up, but its a relatively slow process and as long as the dose is up'd at the right rate then the individual shouldnt behave any differently.
If you gave an addict rocks they would still go out and steal to buy more because you would just further the habit rather than staving off any need.
Obviously there is the usual round of benzo's to help the person sleep.
Acopunchure (sp?) has also been shown to be quite effective.
There's the vacine coming out soon ish too, though theres deep moral concerns over that.
Nothing really.
Do you think the vaccine will be rolled out to addicts when it comes on line Blagsta?
Its morally very dubious but the government doesnt really care about stuff like that.
Then I presume they will be given one-to-one counselling, though thats rare and expencive.
I've got a book at home which discusses treatment therapies, I'll note its name down and give it to you, I cant remember it now.
There is no way it could administered against someone's will. I'd guess that most drug workers would be against it as well.
He was definately against it, saying that addiction is really only partly about the chemicals, most of it is about what the person is running away from. Why the person wants to escape.
Are you just curious or have you got another motive for asking?
oh just curious, why
i dont have any freinds who have a coke problem (well, not anymore and even that wasnt serious) and i have only done it a few times.
I'm guessing CBT could well be useful too, though getting a good proffessional in that could be a nightmare.
oh and nice one LJ:D :thumb:
So, a certain situation might lead you to think badly of yourself, or want cocaine for example, so the therapy works through the reasons for that and you over come that.
Its good for dealing with specific problems, its supposed to be quite logical.
Though I am bound to be explaining it reasonably badly.
for specific personal problems i can quite see that, but as you said you'd need one hell of a professional to put that in place successfully.
i may (and am) be being extremely ignorant here but im having trouble seeing how that would have a decisive impact upon a servere coke addiction, let alone crack.
oh im sure it CAN work, i was just saying that i wonder what the overall success rate is for that form of therapy
Acupuncture, benzos, and CBT, thats about the best of it really.
Most important though is the hope that there is something better waiting at the end of the journey.
would it be fair to say that it can be easier in medical terms to treat a heroin addicition rather than a coke addiction.
or is that just a gross oversimplification that fails to take into account all of the personal and physiology-specific variables involved in individual addiction
But, all addictions are escape, how hard they are to treat depends on what they are escaping.
how much damage has been done (back on topic ) would people say, by the propensity of government drug policy to see the 'problem' as 'drugs' (eg: just say no in the 80s/early 90's) rather than substance specific?
That and its much easier for the public to digest.
good vs evil?
just a thought; since the West (read: USA) has been so quick to point to drug trafficking (sp?) as a major source of funds for international terrorism, are they going to start locking up drug users for funding terrorism?
(devil's advocate.....mwahahaha look at me with my pitch-fork-of-piss-taking-power)
