Interesting article here from McDonalds, about it's own impact on global warming.
The cynic in me waits to see if these lessons bring change, but it's certainly better from them than we are used to.
Thoughts?

McDonalds have many faults indeed. And even if they addressed the raping of the rainforests they're contributing to or their environmental issues, they are still an evil, child-abusing company that specialises in brain washing children.
The biggest distributor of toys in the world isn't Hamley. Or Mattel. It's McDonalds.
And for as long as they continue to peddle their deeply unhealthy shit to children by the various methods they do, they will continue to top the list of the most despicable companies in the world as far as I'm concerned.
The point is that whilst peddling shit, they are also killing the planet. I know which one is the bigger threat. It seems that this team recognise that and something has been said publically to that effect. It's a big step.
Like I said, it will be interesting to see if things change.
BTW I wouldn't call the crap, that McDonalds dispense, "toys".
Any step towards lessening one's environmental impact is to be welcomed, but given that company's ways I remain sceptical. Their one and overriding concern is making as much profits as possible.
For a couple a minutes after they've eaten the "meal", maybe.
Which is something which the article mentions...
Profit for 15 years at a huge level, or profit for 200 years at a lower annual level. Guess which the Japanese would go for?
Yup.
But I am cynical about this story.
A Big Mac is also likely to contain beef from an innumerable amount of British cows.
thats what you get fed in british jails ...the most common serving up of it is called ...cow pie.
when it arrives at the prison kitchens it is labeled ...condemed beef.
it doesn't mean it's not fit for human consumtion ...but it does mean it's not fit to be sold ...as beef.
all the goodness having gone in the milking.
It says that boycotts are ineffectual... However because of pressure and boycotts Pepsico pulled out of Burma, unless I'm mistaken.
If you care about the environment, don't eat at KFC, McDonald, Burgerking... You can't be an environmentalist and pack yourself with that shit all the time, you won't even be a healthy environmentalist.
One thing the article didn't mention (or may have done, I ended up skimming it because it was so badly written) was the impact of animal waste on the environment, so by localising their meat markets they'd still be creating a lot of shit that could quite likely end up in the water source.
Also, if they were to localise markets what about animal feed? That would have to be imported unless they were to cut down a lot of the local countryside to grow it. Importing anything, especially by plane gives off pollution.
It is just beyond me personally, how a fast food company can be environmentally friendly and even if changes were made, it would not excuse the condition in which factory farmed animals are kept.
I would love to see that company go under.
Cows are often factory farmed, factory farming is like intensive food production. They're fed the remains of their own kind hence they get mad cows disease, pumped full of antibiotics and hormones, there are different ways to raise beef cattle, one is to take the baby away from the mother as soon as it is weaned and put it on grass until it is ready to be slaughtered and the other is to take it away immediately and to keep it in a pen and feed it pellets and milk, castrate it and burn off its horns. Then when it gets older it is put in a straw barn type thing and fed lots of food so it gets fat.
I believe in supporting British farmers, but do you really think that a company as big as McDonalds uses traditional farming methods or intensive ones? Do you think that they would support British agriculture?
Not anymore, except for antibiotics.
so they aren't fed their own remains?
it is very expensive to rear cattle indoors and feed them pellets.
cattle are mostly free to roam the pastures as grass ...is amazingly good for them and extremely cheap.
in the winter they are housed in large sheds with silage as the main food ...silage is squashed grass.
then of course they are given supplements as well.
mad cow came avbout not because of farmers but cos of feed drug and chemical companies adding cattle to the feed but not telling the farmers that what was labelled as protien number blah ...was in fact cows.
thgat practice has obviously gone.
a sick animal will not make it to market ...if it somehow does ...no one will bid for iyt.
to have sick lame or illtreated animals brings great shame to british farming families as they all have to have so much contact with each other.
if you knew anything about british agriculkture you would realise why there are so many prize heards and flocks.
american agriculture is massively industrialised as the big companies ...including petro chemicals and drugs have mostly destroyed family farming.
not the case in the uk.
then look at pork production ...it's a close second.
white meat is always pushed as the healthier alternative to red meat ...not for the animal it isn't.
all their worried about is loss of profits with all those flooded restaurants and when we have no houses we won't buy McD. (oh Shame)
its shit and you shouldnt put it in ur system!
McD is a world wide corporation and just because it is slightly improving its 'image' and its sourcing in the UK the LEDC are still getting raped environmentally and in labour, so just dont eat it, boycotts do work why do you think that sales dropped in the UK in the last 2 years and they launched their 'healthy' menu!
BOYCOTT McD!
And you're right, the chicken industry is far crueller.
Correct and McD still sell chicken, some how KFC has a much better image than McD but it is still disgusting,
if you eat fast food, please read fast food nation by Eric Schlosser, its basic but gets its point across so well and highlights the great injustices especially in america from the conditions of the animals, the labourers in slaughter houses, the chemicals that are pumped into the food, and the two faced nature of the fast food industry
To be fair mate... If you eat most meat, it's not just fast food. If you get a chicken kebab, or a sandwich from Tesco, jelly babies have gelatine in so technically they count too.
You can go free range or organic which is a little bit better but free range regulations can be slack.
The food industry in itself rarely ethical, the same when you buy costmetics or hygene products (for anybody interested in cruelty free stuff message me, I can try and help)... It's hard to be animal friendly. I accidentily bought a Gillette product recently. Ahhh!
slowly trying to change to not eat meat cos of the state its in, thinking bout only eating roadkill and what i kill myself, i'd go halal if i cud, no shops near me.
avoid all huge corporate products, apart from the other day really wnated a packet of crisps so found the dodgiest looking packet i cud n it was still owned by walkers!
so i do my best!
![/QUOTE]
why?the halal method of slaughter is to slice open a main artery and leave it to bleed to death ...without first stunning the anima;l. no one is allowed to touch the animal till it is fully dead.
and this in a factory setting is good?
what they have seen is that their marketing practices don't go down well with an informed public ...so public opinion is changing the way they operate.
