Tonight, a man has been arrested in connection with the protests against the cartoons depicting Prophet Mohammed in London back on February 3rd. He is charged under suspicion of soliciting murder. >> Details >>
Obviously, this arrest is welcome. But questions remain, sadly. Why weren't they arrested at the event? Why didn't the Metropolitan Police send officers in to lock up the people inciting hatred and murder? For example, why wasn't the person in this picture arrested immediately for spreading such an evil and dangerous message?
And Scotland Yard apparently promised a swift inquiry at the time. >> Details >>
How can EIGHT weeks be swift? Over to you...

Some people are just plain nuts! :shocking:
He apologised on the Monday afterwards only for two reasons. Because it was disgusting and offensive? Not a chance. No, it was because of the torrent of media criticism that morning, and to make sure he didn't have his collar felt by the police.
I bet if I went around the streets of London carrying a placard saying "Death to Islam", I would be arrest faster than the cop on the beat can eat his donut. And rightly so. So, why wouldn't they arrest them at the time? Why only arrest them eight weeks later, when the fuss has died down? Ah... just answered my own question there...
I don't think anyone's saying he's not a twat and its obviously insulting. But how does it harm us? Same for the placards - its not like someone is going to read 'Death to unbelivers' and thinks 'Bloody hell, that's a good idea; I'll suicide bomb the Bakerloo line'.
Laws should be there to protect us from being robbed, attacked etc, not to protect us from people being tasteless.
what about if i said it shouldnt be possible to arrest you for that either?
what harm to people does "kill all (insert group of people here)" actually do? if someone is that stupid to listen to it, surely they are the ones who need help, and any half witted person would laugh at these statements, i did even though they want my death - if they published provable lies you could do a libel on them
you either have complete freedom of speech, or none at all
we should have a constitutionally bound freedom of speech and opinion
you put it better than me :thumb:
point is, theres always someone stupid enough, to do anything you can think off
so you sorta have to think along the lines of, how do I/We avoid that
yeh, but you cant be arrested for saying 'the genocide happened for a reason' because it's a vague statement and despite the many inuendos, the person who says that could just believe in fate, and read somewhere it was bound to happen through some weird astrology shit
why should someone be done because someone else happens to be really gullible
cause end of the day its not the tv stations fault if an impressionable kid is dumb enough to copycat and do something stupid?
yeh course they can, just explain the nature of the film and let their parent decide if they can or not
im all for making film age warnings only voluntarily enforcable, apart from porno which should share same age as having sex
i do try avoid having a discretionary way of doing things, freedom of speech doesnt mean people have to pay attention to it :thumb:
Having said this, i agree, if you're gonna promote freedom of speech then you can't make exceptions.
if i wanted to go all homophobic, many of you would be disgusted, whats wrong with bullying? nothing if im allowed to have freedom of speech, its either all right or all wrong
i think we are quite free in this country, we just have to be respobsible in what we say
yep..
after all, words can provoke... yet if total freedom of speech is allowed, the person saying the offensive stuff won't get punished, only the person that reacts.
Two different things. I have no problem with film ratings or us not showing extreme violence at seven in the evening when eight year old kids are watching - that's protecting the children.
But I don't believe we should censor films which are for adults. If I want to Hostel I should be able too and at the end of the day its not the makers fault if someone decides to copy it.
As an aside I've never been a great fan of the film causes violence theory - from what some people anyone would think we didn't have murder before the invention of film...
And nothing quite beats "the fantastic four are coming!" ... really? Thought they were fictional!
1 man out of all them protestors. Fucking disgraceful. Blatant racism.
Really just saying as long as your not a white, christian guy you can do and say whatever the hell you want with nothing happning to you.
disgrace.
It certainly doesn't look to me as if white, Christian men are being singled out and having their rights to make idiotic statements taken away from them - Nick Griffin was acquitted on similar charges not very long ago.
3 people......out of how many again????
See my point.
Someone up there said it earlier, if they were to walk in london carry ing a sign saying death to Islam ect then they would be arrested immediately.
Yeah and those BNP members are vilified constantly, were arrested and put on trial, a mayor made to give up their job etc etc.
These fuckers threaten death to and specific death threats, glorifying terrorims etc etc and nothing gets done.
I ask why??????
What else can it be.
Oh and that Nick Griffin was only let off of some charges, he has to go for retrail soon.
However, I do think a few of them might be worth keeping a tab on, which is what I assume is happening.
I think the Police and Special Branch would rather just log who they are and keep an eye on them than give them a caution for breach of the peace.
If I was on that march I wouldn't trust my land line anymore.
exactly if police were going to be smart they'd just keep a tab on some of the organisers and the people who seemed particulary extreme
well the police cannot do this technically it'd be MI5
But on a serious note - I think that whilst htey should be monitored arresting is too far. We are allowed freedom of speech, so let the BNP spout shit too - by all means. But, I wouldl ike to see them and anyone else who says somethingl ike this watched.
Glorifying terrorims an dspecfc death threats don't come under free speech to me.
And how good are video camera's when they cover their face??
