I've never burnt myself on straightners..... I've only ever burnt myself on a drill bit (it gets extremely hot when you drill thru brick or concrete) or when I remove something from the oven!

Also, remember to turn them off before you go out - i once left my GHD's on for 4 days straight while i was staying at my b/f's. Oops! Luckily they weren't near anything flammable...
