Nosy Mums...

Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
mum just been using my laptop and found that i'd searched google for "How old do you have to be to buy porn?"

as i'm her 14 year old daughter she was rather shocked but i had a very reasonable explanation  ha ha!

o how nosy mums annoy me... and for this to have a point anyone else have any nosy friends/realatives? and do you actually have anything to hide from them?

My sister is nosy. And nothing I feel I 'need' to hide, but she will go around in my room and dig things up just to embarress me, if you get what I mean. She normally just ends up embarresing herself though

My brother asked my mum what sort of stuff she finds in my room when she does the hoovering. She said that she couldn't even begin to explain. I don't think she goes through my stuff, she just has a knack for finding things mums shouldn't find.

When I was younger though, my dad used to go through my stuff and it used to right piss me off. I was once going down the pub when I was about 18/19, got down the drive and thought "shit, forgot me fags" and then went back to my room. I opened up the door & turned the light on to find my dad kneeling on the floor looking under my bed, in the dark. I really do not know what he was doing to this day.

Mum's kind of nosy. She always looks at the computer screen when passing by etc.

Once, in 2003, I returned from a 5-day trip with my school and found several things in my room messed up and a certain box -one that held an important (to me) secret- opened. Luckily she didn't find the way to read the secret, but still it ruined all the fun I'd had the 5 previous days. :(

My mum is well nosey, when I was 15 she did the thing I think is terrible.. she read my diary. I had just been caught drinking and was hanging around with a bad crowd but I still think thats unforgivable. Even now she sometimes opens my mail. Ive learned to deal with it but not telling her anything.. if she asks where am going or been she gets the same answer... "OUT". It stops her asking questions!

also whenever anyone is at my house late after a night out and they get a taxi home, you can always see the curtains twitching in their room! nosey nosey! nothing im embarrassed about goes on anyway!

I think parents have a right to know what their kids are up to :/ and tbh nobody has anything serious to hide, at worst a few dirty magasines and such but all parents were teenagers once :p my mum just laughs at me about it :(. It was worse when she started talking about how shes going to get some gay porn, and my aunt was round, and they said they could share it :( my dad saved me though :D

I think kids have a right to think they have secrets when in actual fact their parents know everything ;) it's the best way really. I like to think a lot of things are secret, but I bet you my mum knows all of them.

No, and the reason why is because parents are parents :p. You don't have to agree with me, just saying.

I know, and you don't have to agree with me either. I just think when we reach a certain age that our parents should respect our privacy even if sometimes they think they're doing it for the best.

Yea I was referring to kids, I think when you get to a certain age you are an adult and stand on your own two feet and where you go from there is up to you. :)

I guess its just a parents way of expressing their concern for their kids. It'll never change.

I think its mroe with being a woman then being a mum.
I think there is something in women that makes them more jealous/nosey then men, always feeling like they want to know everything to make sure nothing bad is happening.
That goes for both sexual/parental relationships.

My mum is really nosey. Countless times I have came in to find my post opened, and I am met with the excuse "I thought it was for me" - yeah like Mr P and Mrs F can be confused!!!! She also looks through the stuff on my desk - "looking for a paperclip or a staple" - aye pull the other one.
Luckily she cant use a computer or mobile to save herself :nervous: *thank god*

Every time she hears a noise outside - she is up like a shot to look out the window. Also she goes through plastic bags I give her to see if there are any receipts she can have a nosey at.

She is really bad and now it has started rubbing off on my wee bro. Getting beyond a joke now....

As far as i know my mum never went through my room, and i knwo for a fact my dad doesn't now/nor care what i have in there.

I would have been furious though if anyone had opened my mail, that is bang out of order. Although i don't agree with the it's the parents business untill your 18 thing. 15/16/17 year olds all need their privacy aswell, and i'm glad that my parents respected that.

Is it not illegal for someone other than yourself to open your mail without your permission???

Right mother - you are being taken to court!

My mum used to open my mail. She still rakes through my drawers all the time and even in my school bag. She refuses this but i can tell by the way it's been zipped back up again. She always asks what I've been up to and stares at my screen. I went to the toilet once and heard her and her friend talking about it and reading the screen. Dumb bitches were reading the log on screen :|

    I'd disagree strongly about that.

It's a parent's job to look after their children. But parents who snoop are not doing that at all, they are interfering with their children's lives and, ironically, making it harder for them to know what their kids are doing.

    People who snoop aren't trusted.

I think that parents should know what their children are up to. Its all about safety really. I dont want to know the dirty details but just generally. I would want to know if my child is likely to be drinking when out with mates, that way if can make sure that if something does happen I could be there within minutes to sort them out. I dont mean like 12 year olds. I mean 16/17/18. As long as I know who their with, where they are and how they are getting home I'd be fine.

I agree Zella. If you look at kids these days, the ones (in general) who's parents don't know where they are and what they're out doing are the ones that are going out drinking and such. I don't think parents should necessarily pry into every aspect of a kids life, but it is very much the case of kids often think they know whats best for them - even 16,17 year olds. Why don't people trust their parents to know about them because as long as they're not up to any trouble then their parents can do a better job of looking after them if they know whats going on.

I trust my parents, but it is annoying when you notice they've been through your stuff. Especially when my Mum tells me "No, I wouldn't go through your stuff. That's private.

Although how else do you think humans evolve deception and hiding "madskillz"? From concealing stuff from their parents. Like bongs, pot, bottles of Rum... Talking of that... Cuba Libra time!
