My Mum found out.....what now?

Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,324 The Mix Honorary Guru
I know this is linked to the last post, but this morning my mum found out that i cut, and i know Sy won't have sympathy and say i was attention seeking, but why did i cover it up for 1yr and half?

So, i lied and said it was an exam stress thing and that i had stopped doing it..but should i be honest and say i do it to calm myself down? I don't think she can really understand, and it hurts her. She hugged me and said talk to me, but i find it hard. She cried a bit and i know how much it hurts her but i don't know what to do?

Help.
Thanks.

i think this could be your chance to open up tourette and finally stop this problem, or atleast get some support...your mum is inviting you to talk to her...so try...

I dont knw mch about this kinda stuff, but try to talk to her, i knw mums dont seem very understanding some of the time, but if u want to stop you should see some-one, talk to some-one even if its not ur mum, some-one who could help.

you should try to tell her the truth, as if u lie it will always catch up wiv u! and make things harder.

its up to you weather u want to continue doing this, or weather u r going to stop it. if it hurts ur mum u shd try to talk to her. ur proberly right she wont understand and wont see it form ur point of view,

i dont know how helpful i am, as i dont knw what it is like for you, but hope u sort things out.

Thanks.

pleeeease talk to her tourette, there's nothing worse than your child being in pain (mental or physical) and not being able to do anything about it.

of course she won't understand, but you can help each other, believe me, she wont have stopped worrying and she'll probably just try to keep you away from sharp things, which isn't really going to help is it?

you might find that telling her as much as you can will give you a kind of release.

good luck

You should definatly talk to her but I know how difficult that can be. I cant remeber when my parents found out about me (have no brain cells!) and I dont think Ive ever really spoke to them about it coz I didnt feel comfotable so I know where u r coming from. I think though it would really heap u and even though it hurts your mum to see u in pain she will be less hurt when she can understand whats going on a little bit more. Goodluck!

I think it will hurt my mum, coz i feel even if i do tell her, it will trivialize (sp?) it in a way, coz she'll just think i'm doing it for a stupid reason like attention? Whereas really i like the blood/pain in a way?
Lolly, i feel the same way as you are with your parents. As Mel C once so poignantly said (lol): Things will NEVER be the same again
How long ago did ur parents find out Lolly? What age? Maybe they pass it off at a teenage thing?
Thanks for caring anyway.

your mum would be more worried about you continueing to hurt yourself than if you spoke to her. She WANTS to help you, your her child and loves you...the fact u r cutting hurts her twice as much as it hurts u coz she is helpless to stop it. U may like the blood and pain but there are consequences of infection, blood problems, permenant scarring which you will regret in the future. Atleast think it over and give it a try.

good luck (((((((((((((hugs))))))))))))))

Hey <IMG alt="image" alt="image" SRC="http://www.thesite.org/ubb/smile.gif">
Urgh... tough situation.
On the one hand it hurts so much bottling everything up and having to hide all the time, but on the other you don't want the misunderstanding and the possible feelings of shame.
It's different, but when some of my friends found out I just couldn't bear the disappointment in their eyes.
But your mum loves you, and she obviously wants to help you.
If you feel that talking to her will help, then go for it. It can bring an enormous amount of relief talking to people, and at least if she knows it's one less thing to think about hiding.
People so frequently seem to misunderstand, but you have a great opportunity here to enlighten one more person. She will listen to you, and you can explain to her so that she won't misunderstand. There are also numerous resources on the web that you could direct her to to help her have further insight into your situation.
But ultimately, do what's best for you and what feels comfortable <IMG alt="image" alt="image" SRC="http://www.thesite.org/ubb/smile.gif">
Good luck <IMG alt="image" alt="image" SRC="http://www.thesite.org/ubb/smile.gif">

My parents found out ages ago and they dont pass it off as a teenage thing coz they also found out other shit that helped them understand why I hate myself so much. Its all a long long story!
