Don't forget that they were apparently smoking weed before as well, which is said to have made them violent

No, it's just a convenient way to shift responsibility.

"We brought up our children properly, it was that terrible rock and/or roll music that turned them into murdering nuts. Now excuse me, I have to go count my arsenal of lethal weaponry........"

I don't think you're going to get better quotes about this stuff than from Frank Zappa and the "porn rock" court cases.

"I don't think there's a problem. First of all, I don't think music turns people into social liabilities. Because you hear a lyric -- there's no medical proof that a person hearing a lyric is going to act out the lyric. There's also no medical proof that if you hear any collection of vowels and consonants, that the hearing of that collection is going to send you to Hell."

"I wrote a song about dental floss but did anyone's teeth get cleaner?"

Healthy? Look at the number of young people with mental health problems nowadays. I really do despair at society today, and I suspect things can only get worse, so much worse.

That's true but I still wish Frank alive. We need someone like him. Who have we got now? There is no one to stand against the bullshit and be as articulate as Zappa was. If only he had actually ran for president........

    RIP Frank.

Mad world, is that the song that was in Donnie Darko?
Whatever, I doubt a song could affect so many people that much... I do and did hear sad songs, but they never made me any more sad than I was, just helped me cry a bit easier.
Though I had turned into pretty much a big rebel (in theory) when I was listening to a whole lot of Helloween songs, like "We got the right" and "Power"...

Yeah I think the Gary Jules version is way better than the orginal Tears For Fears version. Cut your wrists tune tho tbh. He must been on a major comedown or had a mad hangeover to rewrite that.

You'd be suprised the sort of effect music can have on people ya know.

Fuck man, I have no idea what this thread is about because I havn't bothered to read it. But I just had to say that the other day my friend made me watch this movie and just... wow. I am surprised that I did not just have an anuryism or that even my brain just fucking exploded in my head from watching that crap. More crap than one human mind can stand.

And ya know what, I didn't even watch the movie. I think I saw bits and pieces of about the first half hour and I couldn't take it. I, instead stood in the kitchen and waited for the pizza to bake.

Mad World - as in the Gary Jules track? Did that make number 1 in the UK at Xmas? Christ!

And critics blamed that for a higher suicide rate? Did those same critics blame Mr Blobby for an increase in stupidity and pink clothing amongst the public during his xmas spout at Number 1 several years back?

I actually thought it was a great song the Gary Jules one, got it on one of my chillout albums, its a reflective song and makes you think about stuff..

Yeah that's true Justin, it does make you think about stuff. I still prefer Orbital - Belfast. Reminds me of coming home at dawn half drunk/half sober. Like the bit in Human Traffic.

Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
Yeah, the Orbital track rocks... nothing like it!

Two of my favourite songs for reflective thinking are:

    * A Man Called Adam - Easter Song
    * All Saints - Pure Shores

The All Saints one is a bit of an odd one for me, but I canned it during a difficult time I was having, it was like an escape song! Easter Song just reminds me of moving to NZ, unexpected journey, going somewhere tropical.. its excellent for relaxation!
