I always knew that there is not any difference between left-wing socialists ( so called liberals) and right-wing socialists ( so called conservatives).

well instead of short term prison stays, why not make them put something back into community, thats what community service is, but that could be slavery as its unpaid enforced work...

all im saying if community service isnt a option as they too dangerous for it but they undeserving of prison, then surely a mix between 2 is a option??

very easy to throw labels and tags about isn't it ...if you understand anything about slavery i think you'll find it has absolutely no connection with a bit of enforced work as punishment for six months!

same as putting someone in a sealed community and obviously ensuring they working 8/9 hours a day, and get food and a bed and can take books etc with them

I agree with you on your opinions about boot camps - dodgy authoritarian shit.
But a point of order about your political knowledge - socialists and liberals are not the same, and "right-wing socialists" is a nonsense statement.

sorry jus saying that obviously they'd be working under fair working conditions and maybe getting paid, but definetly living under livable conditions, maybe not all mod cons

Yes. Bring on the Siberian salt mines!

I would much rather prisoners had to work hard than sit in a cell doing nothing all day. Hard labour used to be a regular punishment. It should still be so, but prisoners should be doing something productive rather than turning a crank or breaking rocks. That way they can put something back into society.

Do we still have prisoners sewing mail bags? Perhaps we should have American-style chain gangs as well?

there still is a lot of labour ...some hard some easy ...in british jails.
almost all food is produced on hard working labour intensive prison farms.
plastics factories ...weaving sheds for dish cloths mops bedding etc. there is a huge textiles industry within the prison system producing denim etc.
the main problem is within the old victorian city centre jails.
but yes ...crime should be punishable ...
but ...in this age of political correctness and supposed enlightenment ...we are expected to rehabilitate ...few of you understand the impossible costs of such fine reasoning.
anyone burgles my house ...i prefer to deal with them than the courts and prisons.
crime should be punished.

I watched this programme again tonight and you know what i 'think' it is probably going to benefit a few of the lads. There was one lad who is being a right pain, but he's slowly learning that he cant do what the hell he likes.......I think in the next few weeks they will wear him down.

and here lies a lot of todays problems ...there are few rules and fewer boundaries.
none of us can do what the hell we like ...would you drive or be driven along roads where there were no rules and regulations?
