I was named after my grandpa, as the tradition is. The original idea was to give me the corresponding male name of my grandma's, and I'd prefered that, since my grandpa's name is the most usual here.
I hate not being able to go anywhere without meeting someone who has the same name as me.

I think my parents took one look at me and thought

"You have more olivey skin than is traditional to our pasty white family, so we'll call you a name so everyone thinks your Spanish."

So I'm Maria. And my middle name (Elaine) came out of nowhere.

It's such a pretty name - one of the Greek Muses. I'd love to call one of my kids that, maybe not as a first name but as a middle name maybe.

I'm not named after anyone as far as I know - my parents just liked the name. My middle name is the name of one of my dad's aunts though.

I was named Siobhan cos when my dad met one of his cousins, he quite liked her, and so he gave me her name.

I found out the other day that it means 'gift of god.' but doesnt it say that for everyones name?? My mate looked his up, 'john' and found out it was 'gift of the lord.' lol

U am a Ghanaian Thursday's child. So I am named after nearly every other Thursday born bloke in Ghanaian history. However these days most kids are called Edward and Christoper. Good old Anglicanisation.

My grandma wanted a girl called Charlotte Elizabeth but she had 3 boys (oops). However, being born in Queen Charlotte's Hospital there were a lot of Charlottes around. So Mum and Dad compromised and called me Kate (not Katherine, 'cos they'd never have actually used my full namei if they had) but kept the Elizabeth. Dunno why Kate, I guess they just liked it.

    Katherine...just 'cause.

Kristian: Comes from a song apparently. Though my parents made it with a K to differentiate it from the religion.
Charles: No bloody idea. My mum's obsessed with the royal family so its blatently after him.
    Michael: After my dad.
