dropping out of college
toffuna101
im one half term in and i already feel like dropping out of college, the stress and deadlines are just too much and i feel like i cant get a level 3 qualification no matter what i do and that im destined to only have my gcses. that isnt necessarily a bad thing however itll be harder to find a well paid job without any proper work experience. my dad says that if i can find a job (which i doubt i will because im 17) then i can drop out of college. he also convinced my mum that i just have to attend college for the rest of the year, i dont have to pass anything. then i can drop out. i wont be able to move onto the second year of college anyways if i dont pass. my dad is also going to try and convince my mum for me not to attend college next week because of my mental health.
one thing that really concerns me however is the fact that im going to be wasting this year on college instead of doing anything productive. whats the point of staying if i know that i wont pass because of my mental health? the work is too hard for me.

im gonna try and find a good volunteering role that i can do so that i can convince my parents for me to drop out. if im not successful in doing so ill just stay in college until the summer, but i dont know if im going to handle it...

Hey
@toffuna101
thank you so much for starting up this thread. How are you doing this morning?
It sounds like college has been feeling really stress-inducing and overwhelming lately, and I'm imagining it could feel really daunting to be in a situation where you fear that no matter what you do or how hard you work, getting the level 3 qualification just doesn't feel like a possibility. That sounds like a real conundrum.
You mentioned that your parents have agreed that if you had work-experienced lined up, they might contemplate you being able to leave college. May I ask, what kind of work-experience of volunteering role would you really like to see for yourself? I wonder if there are any sectors or industries that particularly interest or excite you?
Day-to-day at college too, what are things typically like? It sounds isolating to be struggling with studying, and to worry about not passing tests. Can I ask, does there seem to be anyone else at your college who acknowledges or sees that struggle, for example, any teachers or trusted adults?
We're here with you to listen as you explore this.

i wanna do admin work honestly. you know when im at college im always alone and i dont really talk to anyone. not really, no one really acknowledges that struggle.

Hey
@toffuna101
, we're here to listen to you. It sounds like college has been a difficult experience, and I can hear how feeling alone in that time can make that feeling more acute.
You mentioned that you feel destined to only have GCSEs, and that stress and deadlines are contributing to a feeling that you're not able to achieve a Level 3 qualification. What is it about the experience that makes you feel that this is not something that you can achieve? Are there particular instances that make you feel like this? The reason I ask, is so that you have a space to express your feelings and experiences if you'd like.
It's good to hear that you've been applying for a range of opportunities. I wonder, while you're at college, is there a careers advice service that might be able to look at your CV?

i dont know. maybe they could look at my cv yeah. but i think my cv is fine at the moment.
