(TW mentions of xenophobia, racism and sexual assault) I’m worried I’ll end up like my family

There’s one thing which they never shut up about, and it’s immigrants. They always rant about how "immigrants are coming into this country, how the crime rate raised up and how
they’re raping children and women" (suddenly, they care about the safety of women and children but when white celebrities like Russel Brand gets accused of sexual assault, apparently the woke mob is ruining an man’s career) and "how they want to move into a whiter area".

They never fucking shut up about it. I sort of brought myself into the conversation and said how I’m cautious about men in general, but they said that "the English men are usually well behaved". I’ve been catcalled and sexually harassed by white English men in the past, and they say that "I should learn to grow thicker skin".

My dad and one of my brother are trump supporters and when I brought up moments where Trump said he would date his daughter if they weren’t related, they brushed it aside because he’s a white man.

Obviously, we should be calling out sexual violence, regardless of who it’s coming from. It’s just weird that they suddenly care about sexual violence when the perpetrators aren’t white or English. But when the perpetrators happen to be white or English, suddenly it’s a false allegation or we’re being too woke / soft / sensitive and “nobody can say anything nowadays”

I wish my family didn’t hate immigrants or non white people. And I fear I’ll end up like them one day.

Hi @bignosegirly0, thank you for sharing this with us. I can hear how you're not happy with the views of your family. It's difficult to live with others when politics is brought up a lot, and you have very differing views. You mention that you're worried you might end up sharing similar views one day, what makes you think that might be the case? We're here to listen to you.

@Azziman i think it’s just because their views are very normalised in the area I live in. A lot of people in my area are very anti immigrant. I rarely hear anyone go against those bigoted views, so it makes me fear that I’ll become like them.
