maybe going back to netball

i used to play netball - throughout primary school and secondary school both within and outside teams - covid then hit and lockdown happened, i then struggled a lot with getting back into netball again but netball ni then done social netball which i done for a while and loved it, but then when i went back to college in september 2021 the times really didn’t work out and i then had to give it up. ive now been trying since january 2022 to get back into it, every year ive said how im going to get back into netball again and i just can’t - the closest ive gotten has been driving to the car park, sitting in my car and crying too scared to go in. i’ve contacted my 2 local teams multiple times but i then never bother when it gets to the start of the season but i think it’s due to be worried about the fact i’ll know probably everyone there from playing previously / school, as well as knowing one of my old teachers plays for one of the teams and im just scared i guess because of my scars like them being seen?

howeverrrrr, i just signed up for play netball so now just waiting to be placed in a team - i hope that it’s either a case of being placed on a team that needs players or placed into a new team as many others have signed up too so i dont have to wait too long hopefully. it’s also not like super local to me either so i guess i dont have the fear anymore of what if i know everyone from school etc yay

netball was my fav thing growing up, it was the part of my week where i could just forget everything and just do something i love so im really excited about the possibility of going back again eeeek

Hey @shannon_164. Thank you for sharing this with us, we can hear how much bravery it took to get back into netball - especially after time out and being worried about seeing people you are familiar with and your scars showing.

How are you feeling at the moment about signing up for netball again? I can almost hear the excitment alongside those feelings of concern, am I hearing this right? Hopefully, you will not have too wait too much longer! Doing things we enjoy is super important. For me, this is cinema and theatre

fingers crossed you're able to get back into netball again soon and you're able to have fun and just enjoy it. like laura said, i can almost hear the excitement to get back to it, but also some of the nerves. but i'm sure once you're there you'll feel at ease again.

i’m really not sure how i feel about- definitely a bit excited but also anxious i guess? i do really want to go back as it was apart of my week that i enjoyed but im also worried about going back too:( i love the cinema!! although i struggle to watch new things so its very rare i go haha

@sinead276 thank you! i had hoped that was how it would go last time i tried to get back into it but i just drove there and cried because i was way too anxious about going in:/ hopefully this time round goes better🩷

Morning @shannon_164 its always so hard to take that first step to go back to doing something so I just wanted to acknowledge how amazing it was that even though you drove there and it was so difficult that one step closer and you should be really proud of yourself and I really hope even if the next time maybe you don’t go for the full session maybe you could stand at the door and then go back to the ca Or even just walk towards the door. I think it always helps to start small and then build it up because it can be quite overwhelming. I know from my own experience going back to tae kwon do after a few years I think I’m going to implement similar steps and you have inspired me to do so so thank you for being that inspiration you’re doing so well and I’m really proud of you sending you lots of hugs and love.
