Hi everyone! Hope you've all had a great November!
I’m back again for the monthly achievement check-in! Since achievements are little reminders that we’re doing well, I think it’s important to reflect on these so that we don’t give up on ourselves. As always, please feel free to write as many as you wish!
My achievements this month:
- I finally bought a car and started reading more about the whole insurance process and reached out to a friend when I needed help with this! I feel myself becoming more of an independent adult making my own decisions, which I feel I’ve been lacking at my age. It was so confusing and daunting at first (especially since I’ve never owned a car and my parents don’t drive!) and it’s been a trial-and-error process. I’m slowly but surely getting there, and I’m proud!
- I reached out to my supervisor about what I’ve been considering after graduation – I’m still very unsure but I’m happy to have gotten some advice from her
- I was able to present a book review in Japanese and spontaneously answer questions from people in the audience! And I’ve been slowly but surely trying to understand the content from my chosen psychology modules
In November, it was national self-care week (https://www.selfcareforum.org/events/self-care-week/), and it was international stress awareness week (https://isma.org.uk/isma-international-stress-awareness-week)! Because of this, I’m curious to know what are some strategies you partake in to help manage stress?
Things have been stressful recently – I found that one thing I look forward to is listening to music on the train going to and back from uni. Recently I found that my usual go-to strategies like meditation and journalling haven’t been working as much since I feel too overwhelmed to make time for these alongside other things I need to do. But shortening my journalling time to just 15 minutes a day has really helped, since before it took ages!
I can’t believe that we’re almost at the end of the year – I hope everyone has a lovely December, and I hope to continue these achievement threads next year!
Kai

My achievements:
- I've started welcoming my crafty side this month! I've been colouring in and also recently been making a bunch of paper chains which are so fun. I have a couple of artsy people in my family and I'm personally rubbish at drawing so I've always stayed very away from anything artsy, but this month I've been enjoying being creative in other ways !
- I lost my card wallet and didn't let it ruin my day I just accepted it, cancelled them and ordered new ones
- I feel like I've been managing a lot of work-related stuff pretty well this month even if it has been a little stressful
I have a bunch of little activities I like to do to manage stress. Sometimes it's blasting music loudly (usually Hozier), reading so I can escape to another world (usually Twilight), watching films (usually Twilight lol), watching comfort shows (Fleabag atm), going on walks or embracing my crafty side. I also like to lean on the people I have around me who have been there more than once this month for me to have a little vent to
-taking more time to spend with those i care about Like my friends and family
- saying no when i need to
- I went on a media course as part of an employment support service I am using at the moment to help me to get to my dream job. I undertook health and safety training as well as fire marshall training so I am a qualified fire marshall (I can put out fires now ).
- I had a lot of difficulty sorting out my seasonal job with whsmiths because it was through a recruitment agency and I had a nightmare sending off paperwork and trying to liase with my manager who didnt know at the time I was going to be taken on by a recruitment agency. I was so close to nearly ending my application because I felt like it wasn't worth the stress to be fair. However, I stuck at it and phoned the agency for help sorting out timesheets and stuff and I was put through to a lovely lady who helped me sort out all my details in the end.
- I started my seasonal job at whsmiths and I have been enjoying it so far (I mainly work in the stockroom and I also stock the shelves and stuff )
I think for me when it comes to self care I think you all probs know my answer to this.
Drumroll please.....
Knitting and crochet I have been hooked onto to it but I never seem to finish a project or I start it and then I entirely frog it all . I think for me watching youtube has been relaxing lately.
Oh no I'm so sorry that you lost your card wallet! That's so so frightening and I would definitely go insane, but I'm glad that you didn't let this get to you and that you ordered new ones!
And really well done for getting through work, it really isn't easy navigating stressful tasks!
I absolutely love your de-stressing activities! It's especially important to have someone/people to vent to whenever you feel troubled. And I completely agree that watching comfort shows, reading comfort books and listening to comfort artists (HOZIER IS AMAZING!!), can really help
Aw it's lovely that you've been spending more time with friends and family, it's always really nice being surrounded with people you care about and care for you! I'm proud of you for saying no as well, it's really important for us to establish boundaries
And omg I totally relate to the paperwork process before starting a job, it's so so stressful but I'm glad you managed to get through it and that you're enjoying the job! It reminds me of when I had to sort out my paperwork before starting my placement, I had to get another enhanced DBS check because they got my full name wrong, so I had to search for my birth certificate! Ahh it was so hectic hahah
And of course, knitting and crocheting are just comfort hobbies! I totally relate to you for starting lots of projects and not being able to finish them hahah, but at least the process is so much fun and so relaxing! What kind of youtube videos do you watch in order to unwind?
