finding a job

toffuna101toffuna101 Posts: 1,502 Extreme Poster
im currently trying to find a part-time job at the moment since im 16 and in sixth form but theres barely any good ones out there. i barely have any experience on my cv and any good ones offer like 20 hours of work per week which is too much for a full time student. i applied to one in tesco's that has an 8 hour work week so i hope i get that but given the current job market that'll be unlikely. plus, there will probably be a better candidate for the role than me. i really want a job as i now have a debit card but i have no money in it and my dad will only give me money on my birthdays and christmas. its rough out there people.

I hear you @toffuna101 <3 The first step onto the job ladder is so hard and I'm sure many people will relate to it! Sometimes listing your transferable skills from your hobbies or experiences can be a help on your CV when you don't have much work experience. Good luck, I hope it works out! :3

Hey @toffuna101, I can hear how you're keen to get into work! It's not easy, being sixteen and still at school, but there are roles out there. And well done for being proactive about it - sending in applications is an important step to take, and having your mentor review your CV will be helpful too!

If there's any shops near you that you'd like to work in, I'd suggest going to the shops in-person and asking to speak to the manager - many jobs aren't listed on a site anywhere, and a 2 minute conversation could unlock that opportunity for you.

And on rejection, main word of advice is to try not to take it to heart too much. Of course, rejection hurts at the best of times, but remember that they aren't rejecting you as a person - they're saying that you're not the right fit for what they're looking for. That doesn't diminish your value as a person. Fingers crossed that you get an opportunity that you're interested in soon! <3

i could go into the store and ask the manager whether theres a job opening but im socially awkward and it would be hard for me to speak to them. i could walk into whsmith and ask them whether they have job openings but theyd probably tell me to apply online which i did. i hope i make it to the interview process at whsmith since im interested in the role and the working hours are 4/5.5 hours a week which is perfect for me. thank you by the way.
