Feeling alone

TheNightmareTheNightmare Posts: 2,604 Boards Guru
I'm often alone and down and stressed. I'm also very worried about my future. During the days can be the toughest because I'm not working yet while everyone else is and there's not much support during the day.

Anyone else been in this boat? What shall i do?

hey @TheNightmare sorry to hear that you feel like this!
I have definitely been there worrying about my future and i agree that it is worse when you are not doing something during the day because you have nothing to distract yourself with.
For me, i have just finished university and still just as stuck with knowing what i want to do in the future. I used to compare myself with others and think that i should be at the same point in my life but that is definitely not true! I am now much happier knowing that i am going at my own pace and will eventually get there as well as knowing that it is okay if i change my mind. There is no point adding extra pressure on myself when everyone is different :)
Have you tried doing something to fill your days like learning a new skill or volunteering? this is what i have been doing because not only does it keep me busy and give back to other people but then it is also super helpful when applying for jobs in the future. :)

Hi @TheNightmare I so understand this <3 I'm also struggling to find what career I want and feel a bit lost. I suppose what I do is try to construct some sort of structure within my day. Even with the small things like finishing certain tasks or setting specific time aside for my hobbies. That way I still feel somewhat accomplished after ticking things off, and have some order throughout the day. :3

@Katie12 thanks a lot for all of this and sharing your experiences. I was a bit hesitent about volunteering because you don't get paid and I didn't like the idea to have to work for free even though it might be more flexible. I would consider a placement for a few weeks though. I'm not sure what else I can fill my days in like what skill etc. I just don’t want to sound like I'm making excuses though. Thanks for your reply again.

Hi @amy02 thanks a lot for your reply, can I ask if you are currently out of work or not and a bit more about it atm please? Fine if you don't want to share, I thought it might help. Either way thanks for your reply and I hope things improve for you.

I can definitely see why you are hesitant so a few days or weeks sound like they would be a better fit for you.
Have you ever looked at the open university free online courses? I used these a lot during lockdown to try different courses to see what i was interested in and it gave me something to add to my CV. I'll link the website below :)

@Katie12 yh, it can be a bit demotivating not getting paid especially long term. Yh a few weeks would be helpful hopefully. I will have a look at that link too, thanks so much.

    Hi sir!!

You’re definitely not alone in this even though it might feel like it, I’m between jobs at the moment and might end up hating what I’ve signed myself up to do next but just hoping for the best. I think a lot of people are in a similar boat even if it isn’t the exact same as your situation!

Do you think there might be online groups for people looking for work like Facebook groups etc? I have a friend who has thyroid problems and joined a group and feels way less alone with it so im sure that there would be something for people looking for jobs to chat about and give each other motivation

I think hearing other people speak about their experiences would be good. Or even a support group from your JS place maybe?

Hey @leyla26 thanks a lot, I have been been feeling stuck in a rut but I'm happy to hear I'm not alone. I didn't know you were in between jobs too, if you don't mind we can talk about it a bit on Friday. I hope you dont end up hating what you have signed yourself up for, I wish you nothing but the best to you too, you deserve it. There probably are people on Facebook groups looking for work, that might be an option, I'll check that out. Hearing other people speak about their experiences do help to especially if they're having similar problems to me and maybe a support group too, I think I have heard of them. Thanks so much as always x
