    Hey there,

That's a difficult one to answer. Everyone's memory and capacity to remember is slightly different and even people who live together may experience and remember the same event differently. This also means that some people may not remember much when they were little or younger.

Emotions may also play a part. We may be more likely to remember things if memories were associated with emotions- both positive and negative. So it may be that you don't remember much from when you were younger because little in your mind 'stands out' as memorable. Maybe your day to day to life was more 'neutral' rather than really positive or really negative.

The flip side of this could be if you have experienced a lot of trauma and your brain tried to protect you by blocking the memories so that could be another reason why you feel you don't remember much from your younger years. Being in care by itself sounds like a difficult thing for a child to understand and process.

Alternatively, it may be that you have forgotten things. I think the idea of watching a programme about a kids home was a good idea, even though it didn't bring up any memories for you. Another way to try to remember is by talking to people from your past (if you can) or reading up on your old school reports, looking at old schoolwork you did etc. to help you remember things.

Even if you can't remember much from when you were younger, you still have a whole future ahead of you to create new, positive memories :)

@Past User Memory is a complex process influenced by various factors, including individual differences, emotional significance, and the passage of time. It's not uncommon for people to have gaps or limited recollection of certain periods in their lives. There can be several reasons why you may not remember specific childhood events or experiences, but the inability to recall certain memories from childhood doesn't necessarily indicate a problem or abnormality.

    Hey @Past User
I know memory is such a complex cognitive function and it's also influenced by things we may not even be aware of, eg anxiety, stress, sadness, trauma, aging, nutrition etc. However, you now have the chance to change this and start recollecting your memories by journalling, photographing, keeping track of past important dates and events! Its such a fun thing to do, and one day you'll look back and feel nostalgia
