Struggling again

TheNightmareTheNightmare Posts: 2,587 Boards Guru
I've been struggling a bit about just what I usually worry about like my future like jobs, career, money etc. Ive been feeling like a failure too, I feel OK some days but sometimes I just get down worrying again, I know I've made a few discussions about it but I just want support because I am just worried a lot about everything sometimes and it happens often where I just don't feel positive about stuff. I don't know what to do because it takes courage to go to the gp and stuff.

    Hey Ford,

First up, you are doing really well in continuing to talk to us about this, it may not always feel like it, but that shows real strength to know that things don't feel right and to be able to explain those feelings. It can be really tough when the future feels uncertain, and there is a lot of stuff outside all of our controls right now with the cost of living and such that makes it trickier.

I get the sense that you are putting a lot of pressure on yourself to make big changes instantly, and that in itself can be feeding those worries, because the future is such a big thing, that progress doesn't always happen in a straight line, and in most cases, progress is something that we don't always see over night. I'm a big believer in breaking things down into really small steps, as over time, these add up into bigger gains. Some people even find it helpful to get a diary or a notebook and write down small goals for each day and tick them off when they are done. Having it in a book means you have something you can look back over and that can often help to see how far you have come.

It sounds like you would like to go and see the GP, but that feels too big a step right now, have I got that right? If so, I wonder if we can try and break that down into smaller steps to make that feel that little bit easier? For example, what would you like to say to them if you did go and see them? What ideally would you want in terms of support from them? It can take courage to reach out for help, but remember, you have shown this type of courage in sharing all this with us. We are all here for you 💪

This is very true @FordRanger . Not only is it daunting to actually reach out to the GP in the first place, but there is always the concern that they won't have a helpful reaction or fully understand the gravity of your pain and the type of support you need.

Sometimes people find it easier to go straight through the Talking Therapies NHS website which is basically a self-referral portal. You can write about the basics of what you're struggling with and what kind of help you think you need and go from there:

    https://www.nhs.uk/service-search/mental-health/find-an-nhs-talking-therapies-service

Now, don't get me wrong, I know there can be waiting lists, but sometimes getting the ball rolling is the best approach <3
