How does your religion or cultural beliefs help you when you're feeling down?

Emma_Emma_ Community Manager Posts: 601 Incredible Poster
This holiday season, The Mix is discussing religion, culture and beliefs. We know there are many different beliefs at Christmas, and year round, and that for many people these beliefs can help us get through difficult times.

We'd love to hear your stories about how your religion or beliefs have helped you through a tricky time or when you were feeling down.

All beliefs, religious and cultural, are valid here <3

    This is a beautiful thread!
Born and raised in a Christian family, but I don't feel like a religious person, to be honest.
I do like the Christmas vibes, though; the street lights and the weather make me feel so happy.

My cultural views are around the importance of family. Family keeps me going when I am down because they remind me of who it is all for and they simplify life when the going gets tough! :3

Good morning Laura, I think I have the same view as you. At the end of the day, family is all it matters.

Very cool thread =) I think what helps me most about faith and religion around Christmas, is seeing people celebrating different holidays, as it reminds me that we all have different important events to celebrate and that we all want to be with family, friends or anyone who makes us feel happy. x

    Thank you so much for your comments @AislingDM @Cosmo @Laura_tigger82 @Dancer <3

We'd love to create a video with your comments on social media for our Christmas campaign. We'll make sure to keep your names anonymous and if you wanted to share anything else, feel free to comment again. Let me know if you'd be comfortable with us using your messages for a video. Happy for you to reply to this discussion here or send @TheMix a PM.
Maybe somethings don't get better, but we do. We get stronger. We learn to live with our situations as messy and ugly as they are. We fix what we can and we adapt to what we can't. Maybe some of us will never fully be okay, but at least we're here. We're still trying. We're doing the best we can. That's worth celebrating too ❤

I've only just recently started visiting my uni chapel, and I found it very calming and relaxing. I'm not a religious person as such but I feel like finding god is like finding your own inner piece. I love the Christmas spirit within the church and feel it is very special to bring people together in such a powerful way.

    That's ok with me @Aife

I have also sent the team a message they can use for my Christmas Campaign post <3

I love this answer so much @Anch0r33 , especially the point about Christmas being able to bring people together, like this idea that we are able to join a community to feel warm and supported is pretty cool!

So, when I am down, I believe God has a plan for me and sure, he hasn't revealed it yet but i bet there'll be great things to come

  • Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 156 Helping Hand
For Christmas, my gran makes a full dinner with honey duck, roast lamb, pigs in blankets, chicken, stuffing, rice and peas, brussels and potatoes. Then we crack open christmas crackers, and that's really it. Some family members watch the special sermons on the weekend as well.

Thanks @ellie2000, @charlieboyz, and @La_La for sharing your responses too!

All of your responses sound wonderful.

Though @ellie2000 just out of curiosity what is a cold table? I haven't heard about this before so please forgive my ignorance! B)

Also, @charlieboyz I have things that great things will come for you too. I truly believe in a quote which is that "everything will be okay in the end, if it is not okay, it is not the end"

Keep pushing forwards everyone and I wish you all a very Merry Christmas :3
