It's the notion of 'caste' that's the problem - often considered a way of creating a social hierarchy. In this case, half-caste refers to the idea that certain ethnicities (i.e. White European/American) are more important than others. The poem itself is a challenge to the idea of caste, from the point of naivety - I'd look up the meaning to find out more
