Hi everyone, my name is David I discovered this group today after the young minds website recommend this. I'm 17 year old and I struggle to understand why I get so sad and depressed and anxious alot of the time. I'm open to any suggestion on manageing this.

    Hey,

Really sorry to hear what you're struggling with <3 I can relate to those feelings - it's not the same and I couldn't know exactly what it's like for you, though I can say that this stuff can be so hard.

I think how you can manage it depends a bit on the bigger picture - for example, possible causes, triggers, things that are worrying you (I like to write about how I'm feeling to help work it out). But there's many ways people try to cope, long-term or short-term, some of which you may find helpful.

    • For me, I find general things that help are exercise like biking or running, and music. When I'm anxious specifically; playing online games as a kind of distraction, hiding in a quiet room, controlled breathing.
    • A lot of people find stuff like mindfulness, meditation, a healthy lifestyle, pets, challenging negative thinking, helpful.

I also think there's a point where it's hard to get by on your own. And there's no harm in some extra help anyway. How would you feel about seeing a doctor for this (no pressure or expectation for you to)?

And you're always welcome to come here for some support or a vent <3

It's awesome to have you David, take care :)

    Heyy David,
    welcome!

Hope you find it helpful here.

I guess it can be really hard to know why get depressed or anxious - not even always a reason but ive found that either way - sometimes writing how my day has been and how i am feeling helps me feel less alone and to make sense of it all, some how. So we will be listening if you wanna talk more and maybe can work out ways can manage it. Some things work for different people so im not sure what to suggest but mindfullness - looking at things in detail of my senses and breathing stuff helps me.
“And when they look at you, they won't see everything you've been through. They won't see the **** that turned to scars that began to fade with time. They won't see the heartbreaking things that shook up and changed your entire world. They won't know how many tears you cried or even what it was you were crying about. They won't see how strong you had to be because you had no other choice. What they will see though is how compassionate you are because you experienced pain. What they will see is how kind you are because you experienced how cruel the world is. What they will see is how good you are because you've seen how bad things or people can be. The difference between you and your experiences are who you choose to be, despite everything that could have turned you cold and unkind. You are the good the world needs and the best of us.” ~ Kirsten Corley

I've just edited your post slightly to remove your social media account names as we want everyone to be as safe as possible online. Maybe somethings don't get better, but we do. We get stronger. We learn to live with our situations as messy and ugly as they are. We fix what we can and we adapt to what we can't. Maybe some of us will never fully be okay, but at least we're here. We're still trying. We're doing the best we can. That's worth celebrating too ❤
