I see this as the perfect example of why the so-called special relationship is complete balls (cue schoolboy giggle from PNJ), the British government has done virtually nothing to protect the rights of British citizens being held prisoner by the United States in Guantanamo Bay. Just like they also did nothing to protect the British muslim couple who were harassed and finally beaten up by the New York Police Department purely because they were muslim which was featured on the BBC London News.

If the special relationship amounted to anything more than the British PM of the day sticking their head up the backside of the current American President (and getting doggie treats like the Congressional Medal or getting to address Congress as a reward for their behaviour) then the British government would be kicking up hell to get British citizens tried in a British court or at least in a normal American court or even at the very least letting them select their own defence barristers but all that's happening is once the Yanks say it's okay for us to say "Ummm, you sure you really want to go ahead like this?" then we can and those British citizens will be quietly tried and murdered and Tony can go to Washington and bathe in the compliments which sure as hell won't be coming from home.

Blair is a vain little man, responsible for the deaths of dozens of British soldiers by sending them on every little war he can since he got into office (and for little more than the resulting boost in the opinion polls it gives him) not to mention all the foreign nationals deaths he is responsible for by his orders. He can't even stand the fact that George Bush got all the headlines for his trip to Africa so to go one better Blair's now going on a round the world trip. All we can hope is that he doesn't come back. I hope his time as Prime Minister runs out as soon as possible so we can actually have a Prime Minister and not the American foreign secretary running us.

PNJ - a little basics of terrorism for you - fighting back just leads to a cycle of violence - examples: Northern Ireland in the 1970s/80s and Israel/Palestine since Sharon became Israeli PM - it is only when you take positive non-violent steps and work for peace not war that you can achieve anything. Generally speaking the Americans really need to move on from 9/11 - every part of the world experiences terrorism it's a sad fact of life, you don't achieve anything by brooding on it, the best way to defeat the terrorists is to carry on as much as before.
